No, no, buddy… just pick up his ball and throw it back…. if he has the guts to approach you after that, THEN have a physical discussion with him.

I go to the golf course at 5:00am to stay away from slow asses like you. Are you one of the types that play the blue tees even though you can’t break 100? When I golf on Saturday the slow round is 4 hours. The down side is I have to get tothe course by 5am. If I get there 6:30 or 7am I am stuck with the 5+ hour weekend hackers. If you hit then move, hit then move the group behind you would never be in position to hit into you. If what you describe does happen, why don’t you let them through at the next tee? I don’t have a problem with you taking 5+ hours for a round, but don’t slow down the whole course. Fast play is the cure for your situation not fighting. Rob

The problem with your argument (other than the fact that it seems to condone acting in a manner that may cause injury to someone) it that it assumes that the group in front of you is the one causing the slow play. Ever stop to consider that maybe the’re being held up by the group in front of them? That would make it kind of hard for them to "hit, then move", don’t you think?

Ooooo, I’m so scared. Ed, you made some sense until your last part. False bravado… as usual. I’ve seen guys like you… all talk until someone calls your bluff and then you just stare at the ground mumbling. You’ll just look like a little school girl in front of your friends…. so save yourself the embarassment and drop the violent streak. And even if you aren’t bluffing (highly unlikely)… you’ll probably be the one losing teeth…. to some old lady holding a 3 wood that was pissed off because you are plumb bobbing your 4th putt. Scott

These are two disturbingly-angry people. One’s giving a blanket warning to people he will likely never be on the same course with, and the other is using this as an excuse to rant. All this arguing is ignoring the third rule of golf. To wit (paraphrased): If you are approximately 280 yards from the green and choose to wait for the players to clear the green prior to hitting, the players in front of you will re-line up their putts and your next shot will be topped and travel no more than 50 yards. Conversely, if you choose to hit immediately, knowing full well that the longest you’ve ever hit a 3-wood in your life is 250 yards, you will hit a career shot to the green and strike one of the players there. Also, the player struck will be an ill tempered lawyer. Ya can’t win!

Why do you need to threaten anyone with bodily harm? I agree people should not hit into other people. If in doubt, wait. But you comments are unnecessary. This is a gentleman’s (and gentlewoman) game and your threat of violence is uncalled for and IMHO makes you look bad. I am sure anyone who hits (and flies) into a group knows he or she screwed up. Your act of violence will only make matters worse. Not to mention, how do you know who you could or could not "beat the hell out of". I am sure there are some people out there who could handle you. There could be several explanations as to why Dave isn’t posting: 1. Dave’s in the process of retiring. He sent me a note a couple of weeks ago telling me of his plans. 2. I am not sure that posts originating inside AT&T are getting out. I have made several posts since the end of June that don’t appear on DejaNews. Consequently, I assume they were not posted outside of AT&T. 3. Finally, maybe Dave has grown tired of the endless advertising and pissing contests which seem to dominate discussion these days. Golf is to be enjoyed. If you don,t have time to enjoy the game, and want to work out ,stop at the gym on the way to work. I think this thing with slow play is over rated. Dave has retired from his job and is now in a new position. I do not feel I should give details but I bcc’d him on this note (Hi Dave). He does not as of yet have netnews access, but tells me he misses rsg a little so I expect he will be back after he is settled in. Dave if you want to send any messages to rsg send them to me and I will be glad to post them for you, and forward any replies. Have Fun! My fear is that our ignorance became boring.

Well, your attitude is fine as long as you understand that some might enjoy the game in a different fashion than you. If you’re playing slow, you let people through, right? That way, you get to enjoy your leisurely game and the people behind you get to enjoy the game on their terms. Right. And it’s not as though going to the gym is any quicker anyway. Ever been in a crowded gym between 4 and 6? Those nautalus machines (or whatever they are these days) get mighty backed up, and I’ve never heard of anyone allowing someone to "lift through".

It doesn’t matter whether you understand someone, just that you accomodate them wherever possible. There could be hundreds of reasons why someone doesn’t have time to mosey around on the golf course; one of them possibly being that it’s a game of hitting balls (or, should I say, swinging clubs,) not moseying around on a golf course. As enjoyable as it is to mosey around on a golf course, it’s secondary to the game itself. I, too, sometimes pity those whose sole criterion for whether they’ll go out to play seems to be how soon they can be back. But that hedge, "seems to be," is there for a reason: I acknowledge that there exists a possibility that they could be truly enjoying the game on those terms, and have a right to expect no unreasonable impediments to their chosen means of enjoying the game…and *don’t* need me to patronize them. — "[T]his kind of stupidity in the general populous (sic) is what us (sic) ‘2001ists’ are fighting against." –Matt Ackeret, exemplifying something.
