Question:
I’ve seen this asked several time, but no answers. I know it has something to do with the degree of lie. But does that mean a taller person needs one color and a shorter person needs another or what? Thanks, ~Bill

You’ve pretty much got it. But height isn’t the only factor. They also take into consideration various other factors i.e. arm length, distance from wrist to the ground, etc. If you go to the Ping site, I believe they have their site set up to take all your measurements and tell you what color to get as well as what shaft length and grip size to get. Thanks, ~Bill Not necessarily a person’s height, but the distance of their hands from the ground at address. For example, I am 6′0", yet I use a slightly flat lie club (Red or orange for Ping, I believe)

The color codes for Ping golf clubs, stipulate the lie of the club. i.e., one code would mean the most upright lie, and another meaning to flattest lie. They then can custom fit the club to the players swing arc. Doug Metzger — { Metzger’s Golf Connection } { http://members.aol.com/PGAtour01/golf.htm } { Golf news, reports, pictures! }

It does have to do with the degree of lie. Black dot is standard lie. Red dot is 1-degree flat, orange dot is 2-degrees flat. I’m not sure of the rest. You can go to http://www.pinggolf.com where there’s bound to be an e-mail link and ask ‘em what the other colors denote. But each is a different degree of flat/upright. It’s not that taller people need more upright and shorter people need flatter lies (although, in general that tends to be true). It has more to do with the position of your hands. If you carry your hands low, that will raise the toe of the club and necessitates a flatter lie. A tall person with long arms might need a flatter lie than a short person with short arms. There are quite a few variables. The best advice is to have your pro do a fitting. Randy
