Sum Mountain Orbit Bags

Question:

Anyone have any experience with Sun Mountain Orbit Bags?  A local golf shop has them on sale with the Izzo strap.  The legs come out automatically when you takke the bag off your shoulder.  This looks like it could be annoying as compared to most stand bags where you have to lean the bag forward on the ground to activate the stand.  I’d appreciate any insight.

I have one of those bags-half the time the legs get stuck. Very annoying. Happens a lot when I have a sweater in the side pocket or am lugging my umbrella. Scott Drager

I had one when they fiest came out and I put an Izzo strp  on it but the top rings where the clubs go in broke and the bottom broke or cracked actually now I’m not hard on equipment either I traded it in for a Sun Mountain front nine and the zipper broke needless to say I’m not a big fan of Sun Mountain bags although they do carry very nicely I suggest that in my opinion the best bag for carrying is the Ping for overall balance and wear and tear plus you can still use the Izzo strap i am using a Karsten signature bag right now with an Izzo strap you can remove the threads from the strap and tie the two ends together or I have seen them used as is by just attaching the top strap in the loop created by the existing strap. hope it helps — "Golf is a young man’s vice and an old man’s penance"     -Irving S. The orbit is a bit of a nuisance.  The mechanism for leg extension is a hassle as they are popping out every time you lift the bag off your shoulder by the middle handle ie. to put in the trunk etc.  Also I have found that the rubber band that powers the extension stretches over time and there doesn’t seem to be any way to tighten it and now the legs don’t fully extend.  -will – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Anyone have any experience with Sun Mountain Orbit Bags?  A local golf shop has them on sale with the Izzo strap.  The legs come out automatically when you takke the bag off your shoulder.  This looks like it could be annoying as compared to most stand bags where you have to lean the bag forward on the ground to activate the stand.  I’d appreciate any insight. I got one and like it pretty much. Its easy to carry and the automatic legs are nice on the course. Retracting them for putting the clubs in the car etc was a bit of a hassle, but its no big deal once you get a routine figured out. I just lay the top half on the floor of my trunk to hold the legs down then secure them. There’s just barely enough room for a full set and I sometimes need to rattle the clubs to get them to sit, but in general I’m happy with the bag.         Will, I had the same problem with my Orbit bag.  I just tied a knot in the little bungee cord thing and it tightened it up enough to start working better. Give it a shot. Mike McHorse

I think they’re the best bag out there in the carry division. Easy, light, roomy, and they fit well on the back when you carry the club. Good bag. Ted

The instuctions that came with the bag recommends that you release the rubber strap when the bag isn’t in use.  The will reduce stretching.  There are also instructions to undo the plastic hook, cut some of the rubber strap off and put the hook back on.   I’ve done this once and now the legs kick out even better than when it was new.
