Ping BeCu irons, how do you clean them?

Question:

The Coca Cola trick is the one I’ve always heard.  I seem to recall even asking the people at Ping about it years ago and they agreed that it would work. The question is, WHY would you want to get the clubs back to their original look?  They’ll change again, and part of berrylium’s appeal is the darkening effect (and of course, the feel).

kind of ironic really. we have cleveland telling us useful their rtg series is because the rust kills glare. cu-be irons also included this in their marketing speil, i do concur as i play hogan be wedges which have darkened and are glare free. but here we have a guy that wants to take the oxidation off. sorry just my warped sense of humor again. — peace brett brett r fenton school of civil engineering university of nsw australia

- Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Hi, I’ve only been golfing for a few months now, so I hope you’ll excuse my gratuitous lack of rudimentary golf knowledge. I have a set of Ping Eye-2 BeCu irons that are quite dark in color. How do I bring these club heads back to their original briliant cooper color? One person told me to soak them in Coca – Cola over night, but I have no idea as to the validity of this recomendation. I would greatly appreciate any and all input. Thanks; Anders L.

That sounds reasonable… at first anyway. The acid in Coke will brighten a dull penny to like new. It usually takes more then overnight though I think. So if yours are really dull, it would take a while. My question is why sould you want to brighten them, I think they look better dark and dull. As for cleaning (as opposed to brightening) them, a little water and a nylon bristle brush, should do it.

One person told me to soak them in Coca – Cola over night, but I have no idea as to the validity of this recomendation. The acidic levels of Coca-Cola might just be enough to do what you want. The only thing that might happen is the paint that is in the numbers and the "Ping dot" might get eaten away too.  I dont know if I would even leave them in there over night.  Perhaps on a weekend stick them in there in the morning around 8 and check on the about noon.   Aaron Eppert

What about Brasso? Is it safe?  It would be wipe on/wipe off.

I had a set of Pings in BeCu and used brasso or any other brass or metal cleaner.  Be aware that you might not like to look as they come out VERY bright.
