Question:
– Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Aaron Baddeley has signed a multi-million dollar deal (with no expiry date) to use MacGregor clubs, starting with the Nissan Open this week. In a move copying Greg Norman’s original deal with Cobra, he also takes ownership of MacGregor’s distributor in Australia. MacGregor has a 109-year history in the game, but has faded from popularity in recent times. At one stage Ben Hogan, Byron Nelson and Jack Nicklaus all used MacGregor irons. Now the company is trying to re-establish itself. While Lee Janzen and Jose Maria Olazabal are the other MacGregor players, but they see Baddeley as their "fresh, young face". Of course the sort of hype you come up with when you sign a deal has already started. Baddeley’s manager Paul Galli says: "MacGregor is the only manufacturer in the world that uses custom-ground blades." (Comment: Really? The Nikes Tiger uses are not custom ground for him? Or Ernie’s Titleists?) "Aaron has always been a blade player and he feels very comfortable with them." (Comment: And here was I thinking Baddeley won his first Australian Open using perimeter-weighted King Cobra Classics. At one stage his website proudly displayed the fact. Then again, I suppose they’re about as bladey as Ping i/3’s.)
Well, he has been saddled with inferior equipment (the clothes, definitely the clothes); No comment on the clubs!
Response:
OK, but "willing to pay" is the operative phrase. At the pro level heaps of players get their blades "custom ground".
whats ‘custom ground’ mean? I’ll be interested to see if MacGregor offers custom buckle-grind white belts and made-to-measure retro check slacks as part of its Oz clothing line.
u cheeky boy mr wilson!
Response:
Yeah sure… But in the case of MacGregor’s custom ground irons they’re available to anyone willing to pay for them. See <http://www.macgregorgolf.com/custom_options/custom_grind.html for details.

I think that he meant for the general public (he exaggerated) . Macgregor offers for a fee (Used to be $8000) they’d fly you down and spend a couple days with you getting the ‘EXACT’ grind that you need and want

Okay, so Baddeley and Galli have no publicist writing this stuff. From everything I’ve seen, no tour player uses stock equipment. Same thing happens a lot in pro baseball, the glove makers and their trailers at spring training. JHH
Response:
Badds was on the golf channel and he also said he was impressed with how MacGregor treated him, from building him a complete set by scratch in about a day or so. Good customer service will win out (of course getting residual money from the deal didn’t hurt) Also, he is still contracted to with Nike to play with the Nike ball, Nike Glove and Nike Shoes. — Desi Segundo III 810.577.8710
