Beginner's Golf Clubs

Question:

Hi, I just started to play golf and want to get a set of my own instead of messing up my friends set. I was looking at the Wilson 1200 E set, which runs around 180.  Is this a good beginner’s set or should i look for something else. Thanks. Mark

Mark… IMHO, you should consider something like the Tommy Armour 845 Oversize irons. They might just be one of the best values, particularly if you can find someone selling used. They can be bought new for $225-299. Yes they are a bit more $$$ than those Wilson irons, but they are worth it. Down the road a few years when your swing has improved, you can  try to unseat the Tommy Armour irons with a new set. But I would wager $$$, you will have a hard time. The same could be said for some other great "forgiving" club designs like… Ping ISI-K TopFlight Tour Oversize Mizuno Sures Cleveland VAS … and the list goes on. Bottom line… you don’t have to spend alot. Good luck RJ … – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Hi, I just started to play golf and want to get a set of my own instead of messing up my friends set. Look into getting clubs with heads similar to the brand names from some internet sources. Be sure to have a Pro fit you. I think fit is the most important aspect. For an internet source you might try: http://www.golfstixs.com/ Ted

Just get something cheap that you don’t mind beating up a little.  I wouldn’t spend more than a few hundred bucks on a complete set if I were you.  My first set was a set of Wilson "Advnatage" that I got at a sporting goods store for about $175.  Played them for three years and beat them to death.  When my game started to improve I started upgrading.
