Question:
Today’s fantastic, scintillating finish should not make us forget that Valhalla is a poor excuse for a site for a major championship. One reason Tiger had to work so hard was that the course was easy enough for some tomato cans to shoot well under par. This course is fit for the Buick Open, not the PGA…

Is that your personal golfing experience or that Tiger bout got de-clawed??? And if the course is so damn easy..why did Tiger not shoot like a -40 -57 ??? Hmm hmm…obvious Tiger fan would speak these words…I personally am tired of hearing of him:) BTW, like all good fairytales..they come to an end…and so will Tiger’s luck..he’s not God..nor is he invincible..some day soon..there will be a new challenger..that will chomp Tiger up like a crispy potato chip:)) Good Day!

Valhalla left me empty (twice…) 1. with the great down-to-the-wire golf 2. the golf course – it’s not one for the ages….. I can’t really think of any hole that would stay in the mind for years Rob

Let’s see. Tom Watson is one of the 5 best golfers of the last 30 years. And he’s *way way* past his prime. But he shot his best score ever relative to par at the PGA, and finished *10th* or something. That says everything we need to know about Valhalla…

Jack Nicklaus finished 6th at the master’s at 58…guess that says everything we need to know about Augusta National too…

I agree that Tiger is a great golfer. It may also be safe to say that he is the greatest ever, but it is very hard to compare golfers (or athletes) from different generations. To say that Valhalla is easy because Tom Watson or Greg Chalmers or Bob May shot so far under par is ridiculous. If that were the case, Tiger after shooting so well in the U.S. Open or the British Open, would have killed the competition. Just like every other sport people or teams can have good or bad days. If you golf at your local course and shoot say a 75-80 does that mean it is an easy course or you just played well. Tiger is human, he can have bad or good days like everyone else. I just think that was one of the greatest finishes to a golf tournament ever. Way to go Bob!!!!!

I would probably throw my mouse into the wall, shattering it into pieces. And rip my monitor from the cpu, and throw it out the window. Why??? what am i supposed to do? Before you buy.

It’s not just because 2-3 guys were way under par, it’s because *scores* of them were. And, when Tiger and May broke the record for lowest score relative to par at the PGA, where was *that* record set? At the ‘96 PGA played at… Valhalla!

Or, everything we need to know about Tom Watson.
Take your pick.

I thought the same thing. But in fairness to Valhalla, the rains that softened the course, helped lower the scores. In hindsight, they might have been better off narrowing the fairways to make the course play more difficult. Had that happened, though, we might have seen another runaway. It surely would have eliminated quite a few players much earlier. In the end, I thought the course acquitted itself quite nicely. It certainly produced a tournament that will long be remembered. My mistake. Thanks for the correction.

No, that was Riviera in ‘95. Valhalla played tough on the Thursday afternoon – firm plus a one to two club breeze. But for the steady rain which fell that night coupled with relatively still conditions for the remainder of the tournament, the competitive score would likely have been no better than -10. Any championship course that is relatively still and holding will give up low scores.

Oh well.. thats life for ya.. Just like my golf yesterday afternoon. I only played 9, just because I played the worst golf ever. I birdied the first hole, I’m thinking.. oh yeah… then i lost a ball on two.. i ended up w/ a 6. then on 3 and 4 a bogied. So now I’m 3 over. Thats not bad, I can deal w/ 3 over. Next hole, Long par 5, the wind behind me, I nailed one, It went too far, went into the creek, my 2nd shot, I went for the green, Bad idea,,,,, It went for the creek(again).. So I ended up with a 8 on that hole(6over in 5 holes), par’d the next 2…. # 8.. oh my lord.. I wouldnt mind if I never saw this hole again.. Blind dogleg right, I play a fade, and it decides to go straight. Straight… the only thing straight is a road. So I almost cause a couple of wrecks, anyway, I ended 10 over in 9 holes… I blamed it on my sand wedge. lol -steven Before you buy.

Some good advice I once received: " never bend a shot where if it goes straight you are in deep doo doo."
