True Sportsmanship ???

Question:

- Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – A mother and son partnership in a Member’s Family golf competition win through to the 3rd Round and are then disqualified. How many golf rules were broken ?   None !! Another member of the club in Surrey (from the ‘family’ who lost in the 2nd round maybe ?) complained to the committee that the son taking part was adopted and not a "blood" relation. There are some real sad w*nk*rs in society but this pillar of the community whoever s/he is in desperate need of a "Get A Life" injection. The committee, in their wisdom, upheld the complaint and disqualified the ‘offending’ family. I would hope that, come election time in this particular club, the members with an iota of commonsense see fit to administer a Size 11 to this committee and particularly to the complaining member. This, of course, just backs up the common theory that for some poor sods, the game of golf is a good walk ruined. Of course, as was mentioned in ‘Have I got news for you’ last night it was crazy for the committee to come to that decision……they could simply have said he was a foreigner :-) )) Ken

To get an idea of how important "blood" is to the blood-crazed British, check this out from _The Adoption Triangle_ by Sorosky, Baran and Pannor: "Although most U.S. laws are derived  from British common law, adoption is one exception.  To the British, blood lines were so important that legal adoption was not accepted until the Adoption of Children Act of 1926.  The clear preference in inheritance  was a blood-line successor, however distant in relationship.  In extremely unusual cases, where it was absolutely imperative to provide an heir, illegitimate offspring of family members could, through complicated steps, be made legitimate heirs" I don’t imagine bastards are allowed in the aforementioned golf tournament either.  Apparently adoptees are even lowlier than bastards in the eyes of the British. Sounds like someone is not a little behind the times, like very many decades… or possibly ignorant… or both. Wonder what would happen if all the opinions of the Adoption Circle met together with the representatives of this neanderthal ‘committee’. ;) ) (Not that I would ever wish to so insult Neanderthals) The vast majority of the UK were revulsed by the item… one reason it acquired immediate national news significance.  Pity that it took this to eject such creatures into the bright lights of the late C20th…. or perhaps… just as well that it did! Of all the lamebrain ways to win a stupid golf tourney!  This "member" outta be turned inside out. To the family with the adopted one…quit the club.  Those people aren’t WORTH your time or acquaintence.   I would hope that, come election time in this particular club, the members with an iota of commonsense see fit to administer a Size 11 to this committee and particularly to the complaining member. Get ‘em out playing hockey.  One-on-one.  They’ll be no crying to some stupid committee that "we didn’t win.  We didn’t win.  We didn’t win". Of course, as was mentioned in ‘Have I got news for you’ last night it was crazy for the committee to come to that decision……they could simply have said he was a foreigner :-) ))

What planet did the committee members descend from? Ken Wow!  There really are some tossers about.  Tell me more!

Latest update that I have heard: Next years competition will not have any restriction on blood/non-blood relationships. The entry conditions for this year (and presumably previous years) excluded entry for step-relation pairings (and thus the club committee took the stance that it implied all non-blood relationships were also excluded). Reportedly, the R&A were not impressed by the entry condition. Personally, I agree with the club decision. After all, Laura Davies could adopt Nick Faldo and what chance would anybody else have of winning the comp? :) Heee heee heeee. I hope you read this far before flaming! Really, I blame the club committee for having such a STUPID entry condition in the first place. I mean if somebody’s going to adopt/marry, solely for the purpose of winning an annual club competition then I really pity them! And a family is a family even if not all members are blood related. As regards the tell-tales: they were in the right (and the club did the only thing they could in the situation) ‘legally’. However, I bet they find their popularity at the club has dropped not a small amount, and that they may have problems ‘making up’ for a round in future. And I’ll not shed too many tears about it.   SteveR

Just to keep the record straight I hope readers noticed in the press that the club concerned had reversed their decision on this matter – pity they made such a stupid one in the first place. Colin C

Well, "Bastard" is still very much a swear word in Britain, isn’t it? It cracks me up that these folks fancy themselves "pure" or something. I hope the offended family will sue the committee for all it’s worth. Damsel Plum Sub-Commandante for Public Relations BASTARD NATION  http://www.bastards.org/
