Online Golf Tour (Links386, wish list)

Question:

I would like to start a discussion on this subject. Perhaps one day Accolade will bring out a network version of Links, which would be great.

Accolade? Accolade? Wow, that brings back memories! They made the first computer golf game I ever played. It was called "Mean18" . It may be very "Pong"ish compared to todays games, but lets face it, nothing I have seen out there today compares to it with respect to courses offered. Mean18 offered Augusta, Pebble Beach and St. Andrews. At least the two disks I had (yep, old floppies. 5 1/4 inchers) offered those courses. I’ve tried Links CDROM for MS-DOS and I have to turn off the sounds in order to run the darn thing. And my choice of courses is Firestone & Torrey Pines! Whoopie.  As for the "on the net" idea of the golf game, it sounds unworkable. Reinier Furthermore, golf is only really exciting if you know that you have to make a shot to win a match. If you know the scores of your fellow competitors online, the game would be really much better

Even better is having your opponent present. Real-time pressure, real-time in-person heckling and kidding for spice. Kind of like that new Top-Flite commercial with Payne addressing a shot and Trevino, Glasson and Stadler heckling the hell out of him. Of course Top-Flite ruined the commercial by having them in carts, the morons. And are we to believe that Trevino wears reading glasses while watching someone hit a golf shot. Morons times two. Good Golfing! Jack

There is a Links 386 pro golf tour on the net. It is allright, but it is not as exciting as it good be. The mean reason for this is Links386. Recorded games can only be made with no weather variable. People practice a course until they know how to make an eagle on every hole. Unrealistic scores are the result. Furthermore, golf is only really exciting if you know that you have to make a shot to win a match. If you know the scores of your fellow competitors online, the game would be really much better. I would like to start a discussion on this subject. Perhaps one day Accolade will bring out a network version of Links, which would be great. My wish list:         a) more difficult shots (bunkers for example), not so forgiving         b) recorded games with variable weather conditions         c) online competitions. I can understand that online racing car simulations are a bit difficult (technically) at the moment. But golf isn’t a fast reaction game, so it must be possible. Just as it is possible to play chess on the net.         d) Cyberspace World Tour (online) Every week another event, with players from all over the world. Some people have to stay up late, I guess. If there are to many players who want to join, you just form some extra tours (Cyberspace European Tour, Cyberspace American tour). A few majors would be nice, for which players have to prequalify.         e) More build in Golfing Games (Matchplay, foursome etc.) I would like to ask anybody with a opinion on this subject to mail me.
