Question:
Thanks to everyone who has replied to this via post or e-mail. I was so excited when I got home. I’ve even framed the scorecard which one of the Ass’t Pros wrote up real fancy for me. FWIW, I am 44 yrs old. My dad started me when I was 7. But, I never got serious enough about it to actually study technique until I was almost 30. I was past 30 before I actually broke 80. 75 was a tough barrier to crack as was par. I had shot (-1) 5 times before I did this last Sunday. Due to restrictions on my time, I haven’t been playing that well lately. This came literally out of nowhere. I am a follower of Jimmy Ballard’s theories on the golf swing. Implementing those ideas are what initially got me down to around par. I have been studying the writings of Dr Bob Rotella lately (Golf Is Not a Game of Perfect, Golf Is a Game of Confidence). Keeping my focus per his ideas really saved me when I could have let it slip away. As far as equipment, I believe that it is not as important as the manufacturers would have you believe. The one thing I consider important is fit. I played with irons with a flat lie for years because I am just under 5′8" and have short legs too. I got a fitting lesson after seeing a Wilson commercial with Ken Venturi explaining that most golfers play with ill-fitting equipment. I worked out to std lie, stiff shaft, std grip size. Because of that I am playing Wilson irons. Still, its the Indian not the arrow ! Best Regards Ken

That included 5 birdies and an eagle. Someone who doesn’t play could never understand how much this means to me. I was beginning to think I had forgotten how to play. Ken
