Golf Swing Theory

Question:

I am sorry if my comments were out of order.I was trying to adress George’ post about the common swing faults                                 Hank Swanson P.S. A lot of the most insulting coments Ihave read lately have nothing to do with the original subject but I will try to do better in the future.

Hank, Can you check if "web tv" has a feature or box to click that allows you to include original text in the reply…  Hard to follow what you were talking about without quoting.  (P.S. Mean-ness not intented). Steve

Response:

As I work as a marshall the most common faults I see on the course are as follows:    1.poor stance    2.bad grip    3.Bad alignment Unless you get those things right there is no way you will get good results.                                     Hank Swanson

Response:

Another point I would like to make is that if you can hold your follow thru until the ball lands Its  a good indication you have made a balanced swing.                                   Hank Swanson

Thank God you’re not a marshall on our course. If I had you standing behind me checking my alignment and near enough to see my grip and stance, I’d give you a good resulting mouthfull. Alan

Alan, I can see from 50 yards away when a poor stance, bad grip, or bad alignment is happening.  There are swing features that are dead giveaways of the core fault.  I often point them out to pupils at my teaching station who are down the line from us – and they see it too. Examples:  when a club does not get cocked to 90 degrees with the left forearm, it is ALWAYS traced to the grip. When a chicken wing happens, it is ALWAYS traceable to the grip. When the golfer aborts his follow through it is obvious when his WAY too wide stance prevents him turning that the problem is not his "swing" but the core issue – the stance. None of this requires upclose observation; the relationship between swing and faults to a trained eye is usually a simple read.    I say trained. Many observers do not bring understanding at all. One of the easiest things to observe is the difference between a good "stroke" (natural pendulum timing) and a "hit" lacking efficient rhythm. Not only does a golfer who is made aware of the difference in principle able to acknowledge it in his swing when it is pointed out to him specifically; his 8 year old son who is not a golfer but who is observing the stroke can also tell the difference immediately.  "Yew Hailped!"    It simply shows itself. That’s my experience of it… GH – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text –

You don’t have to stand behind someone to see these faults. These things are pretty obvious if you have played the game for fifty years.                                Hank Swanson

What faults?  What things are obvious?  What are you talking about?  Is this a response to another post?  If so, why don’t you at least copy a portion of it so your post would make sense?   ___,     o        |       /        .
