Dumb Question…which hand does the glove go on for right handed? Thanks.

Question:

The left, but… some people where gloves on both hands, so there’s a dilemma for ya!

I do, and I think that’s my problem… I spend all my time trying to figure out whether I’m a lefty or righty. — "How Can You Not Like A Game Where It’s Okay To  Get Teed Off, Tote A Six-Iron, Shoot Birdies,  and If You’re Under Par It’s A Great Day!" Has it ever occurred to you as you watched the pros play and noticed that none of them — not a single one — wears TWO gloves, that maybe — just maybe — there’s a reason? Randy

[snip]         Oh, that’s easy.  They have a heck of a lot better golf swing than I do.  So, what, I’m supposed to walk around with alot of blisters on my hand until I learn that good swing just so I can LOOK like the pro’s (until I actually hit the ball anyway)?  I KNOW I have a lousy swing.  When I learn to swing correctly so I don’t get blisters all over my hands, THEN I can start taking off that glove (or both as some claim they do).  They also don’t use the same kind of clubs I do.  I don’t use the same balls they do, the same bag….                                 Kev

FYI: The purpose for a glove is not to avoid getting blisters.  It’s to be able to hold the club without it slipping. If you’re getting blisters, it has nothing to do with your swing.  It has to do with the fact that you’re strangling the club, instead of holding it with a light grip, like you’re supposed to. Oh, and one other thing:  Wearing one glove just to "look like" the pros *would be* kind of silly, that’s true.  But wearing one glove because it will help you PLAY BETTER is the reason to do it.  Wearing a glove on your right hand (if you’re a righty) only helps your right hand overpower the swing, which is exactly the wrong thing to do.         Maybe for you ;-) If you’re getting blisters, it has nothing to do with your swing.  It has to do with the fact that you’re strangling the club, instead of holding it with a light grip, like you’re supposed to.

Well, okay, pick a nit, I consider a proper grip part of a good swing. Oh, and one other thing:  Wearing one glove just to "look like" the pros *would be* kind of silly, that’s true.  But wearing one glove because it will help you PLAY BETTER is the reason to do it.

Oh, I agree, but right now, removing a glove DOESN’T help me play better (doesn’t make it worse either).  Blisters DO make it worse.  ’Course, if I could learn to loosen the grip AND remove the glove…. Wearing a glove on your right hand (if you’re a righty) only helps your right hand overpower the swing, which is exactly the wrong thing to do.

Yup, but removing the glove and NOT relaxing the grip is also the wrong thing to do (blister wise).  I keep trying to relax that grip.  Haven’t had much success.  I have gotten to wander out on the driving range to retrieve a club or two while trying. :-o (Okay, so I’m not the most NATURALLY coordinated person).                                         Kev

I wear two gloves because my hands, or more specifically the ring fingers on each hand, would get torn up without them.  When people ask me "Why do you wear two gloves?", I just respond by saying "Why does everyone else wear one?" I have asked for suggestions as to what I might be doing wrong, but I have yet to hear any good theories.  I should have a pro check out my grip.  On the other hand, I tear up my hands bowling, playing tennis, or raking leaves, so maybe it’s just genetically weak skin.
