Question:
I generally have a quiet word with the Captain. Mostly they are prepared to allow putting and chipping practice in the first-class section, except when meals are being served.
Response:
If you are a very accurate driver of the ball, playing Links LS or whatever might help improve your course management skills. Other than that, no, but at least it might improve your enthusiasm for the game. -joseph – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Anyone see the article in Sunday’s NYT – good golfers make good CEOs? I haven’t talked to anyone who has improved their play via video games. However, I have talked to and worked with a large number of golfers who have improved their play by listening to properly prepared, golf improvement, mental rehearsal, tapes. Properly prepared tapes include music or sound (technically called neuro-acoustics) which creates a mental set for accelerated learning. Depending on the specific goals, such tapes distinguish between imagining playing on the golf course vs. imagining being on the golf course playing. Again, such tapes distinguishing between imagining playing in real time vs. slow motion or accelerated motion; in color or black & white, … These and numerous other considerations are the differences that make a difference in the efficacy of golf improvement, mental rehearsal tapes. Consideration is given to at least some of these variables in most of today’s commercially prepared tapes; variables that were not considered as recently as five years ago. Ask around for a recommendation, purchase one, and on you flight sit back, relax, listen and take your golf game to the next level Nick Nick Rosa, Ph.D. Peak Performance Psychology <http://www.PeakPerformancePsych.com – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Anyone see the article in Sunday’s NYT – good golfers make good CEOs? I just bought a laptop finally (a plug for the place I bought it, uBid.com – it’s an action site but with actual customer service and steals if you can be patient some) and now it’s with me on my transatlantics and various other occasions where I can’t concentrate enough to get actual work done. But I sure as hell could play some golf. But video golf isn’t the most thing ever, so only if it’s going to do me some good. So? Is it? Thanks, K.J.

: K.J., : I can tell you that endless hours of playing Links98 has not helped my : golf swing any. In order to improve your game you need to develop a : natural swing. The only way to do this is by actually swinging a club : or through some drills. I would say get a good instruction book and : spend your time reading up on how to improve your swing. This has : helped me considerably : Adam I agree that Links doesn’t help your swing one bit, but I think it can help your mental game. If I’m playing LinksLS and hitting greens, making tons of pars and some birdies it does carry onto the real course. When I get on a roll in real life, I’m not afraid to keep going. It’s like I know what it feels like (and what it takes) to shoot in the low 70’s, so I don’t freak out and make a double after I play my first 6 holes 1-under. For some reason, I’m more relaxed about it- I’m not thinking "Oh man! I’m 1-under, better not screwup now!" Craig

The minute you figure out how to translate successful manipulation of a joystick on on a computer into the "muscle memory" required to make a good golf swing is the minute you get a piece of Bill Gates’ fortune. Randy

I play JN5 computer golf… it helps to a certain extent – for e.g. you get to work on focus and concentration. Also, it’s good practice for course management.. but other than that, nothing beats a full swing at the course… – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Anyone see the article in Sunday’s NYT – good golfers make good CEOs?
