RETRACTABLE SPIKES

Question:

I believe someone is already manufacturing retractable spikes.

Really? got any more info? Response:

I think it’s a great idea but the price would have to be reasonable or people aren’t going to pay. I know many country clubs are requiring soft spikes now, and can be expensive ofr the better brands. Some might just opt to purchase a pair of thse retractable spikes instead.

Yep –  at least one manufacturer, a Danish company with the brand name Golf Copenhagen manufactures shoes with retractable spikes. The spikes proper are made of PLASTIC, though. Wonder how durable they are – not to mention the "mechanical" parts of the spike socket… BTW – We have a soft spike only policy at our course during the winter months, so I am stuck with the little bilghters. IMHO the are no good in anything but bone dry conditions. Even in fairly dry conditions on the range you churn up the turf after a few shots because you DO slide. Once on a frosty fairway I ended up on my backside due to accumulations of ice under the socalled spikes. When the grass on the greens is not in growth, however, they do help the general health of the turf. If you drag your feet on the green in November with real spikes the scuffmarks will only begin to disappear later this month. In the mean time, the gashes are excellent inroads for fungi and similar undesirable infections. I fear we will have to live with the softspikes as an added spice in our winter golf … Henrik Ebbesen

- Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – : Would anyone be interested in "retractable" golf shoe spikes?    These spikes would literally retract under your golf shoes according to the playing surface; ual green surface.  On a more "giving", softer area-Teebox they would fully "detract" as if you were wearing regular spikes.  These would really limit the amou  the putting surface!  I need you input or opinion on this subject. : Any comment is welcomed, : Thank You : K.F.I.N.J I believe someone is already manufacturing retractable spikes. I saw these the other day. They are spring loaded, and don’t look as though they would be much more expensive than regualar spikes. I think the idea is great, but I really wonder how they would work under actual playing conditions.  I would like to get a set just to check them out. Terry Pierce UASON —
