See if the new course, designed by Pete Dye, at Purdue University, has been opened yet. It will probably be one of the best golfing bargains around. The other course there is not too shabby either. -Robby P. — "It is not permitted to the most equitable of men to be a judge in his own cause." In Southern Indiana(Louisville, KY area) the best deals are Fuzzy Zoellers Covered Bridge GC in Sellersburg, Valley View GC in New Albany, Otter Creek GC in Columbus(45 miles south of Indy). Also, check out Sultans Run GC, and the courses at French Lick Springs Resort, there are two of them there. Good Luck JD Louisville, KY

Back in ‘66 I played in the NMA Championship on the two courses then available at Purdue. We played the quite long, rather flat course first… a lot of 440 yard holes and one par 3 at about 225 yards. I was 46 at the time and was exhausted after trying to keep up with the youngsters off the tee. In the afternoon, we played the other course and I should have worn my "cloven hooves" instead of golf shoes… just about the most up and down and uneven course I ever played. One beautiful par 3, the tee was so high they had to cut notches in the footpath so that walkers with carts could get up the hill. Never had a flat lie on the whole round and I was so tired that it made the morning round seem like a walk in the park. Despite all that, I loved both courses and if they changed either one to allow for the new Pete Dye course, it would be a shame. — "How Can You Not Like A Game Where It’s Okay To Get Teed Off, Tote A Six-Iron, Shoot Birdies, and If You’re Under Par It’s A Great Day!" The "best *deal*", if what you want is price value, in North Central Indiana is Rocky Ridge in Darlington. Darlington is a small town just east of Crawfordsville. It’s the cheapest course in the area, offers a wide variety of holes, and has been in excellent shape every time I’ve played it. Can’t beat that combination. The "best *deal*", if what you want is course value, in North Central Indiana is Rick Hollow in Peru. The holes are majestic (or at least majestic for what flat Indiana can give you), few blind shots, fast greens, plenty of risk-reward opportunities, and in great shape. You’ll leave there smiling, even after shooting a high score. — Joe
