What opportunity is being denied?

Question:

Hey Tom, I am one of the the fortunate few who lives in Augusta, Georgia. I’ve never heard of AGNC. Is that a new club that opened here? I am familiar with the Augusta National Golf Club (ANGC) it is located a few miles from me on Washington Road.

– Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Firstly, you are assuming that deals are done at AGNC. If the bylaws don’t discourage deal making, members often will as many of them are trying to escape their day job. AGNC members are CEOs and movers and shakers who do not need AGNC to make deals. Any member, man or women, who has the credentials to join AGNC is already very successful and doesn’t need AGNC to be more successful. This myth about all private clubs existing only to make deals stems from exclusive lunch clubs in major cities where women or minorities could not join and invite clients/customers or be invited as client/customers. The usual argument is that clubs like this (having as members society’s movers and shakers) are "places where deals are done".  Being excluded from these places, women don’t have the chance to be part of the "old boys’ network" that greases the wheels of business. In short, it’s far worse than being denied access to, e.g., the Chamber of Commerce. What opportunity is being denied by women not being members at ANGC? (As I’ve stated elsewhere, ANGC is completely within their rights to decide their membership.  Most people who say women should belong say they are being denied opportunities.  I’m just asking what those are.)

Response:

The ladies are being denied thier right to belong to a racist, elitist, and sexist, club.  The girls just want the same right to discriminate against folks, on the basis of sex, color, and wealth, that the men now enjoy.  After all Pat, how would you feel if your golf course kept you out because of your fat gut, and insane political ideologies?  I always knew that golf did nothing to benefit humanity, and this is just one more example.  When are we going to wake up, and realize that the land occupied by these golf courses would be better suited for office buildings, strip clubs,  and malls.  Sincerely, Rosa Parks

First, nobody said such clubs "only exist" to make deals.  Are you flatly denying that nothing of the sort happens at any such club?
