Tiger not a role model

Question:

What did Norman say after he lost the Masters?  At least I still have $40 mil.<<

I didn’t hear that, nor the context it was stated in. I think it is a poor thing to say. I heard today that Norman might give up playing as it isn’t fun anymore. I’ll stick by my comment. Money is never the measure of a man. Look at The Donald.

I have heard this statement from a number of people but I have never seen it attributed. Please post the name of the newspaper, wire service, TV network, etc that published this statement.

Hi Dan,   I saved this from   http://www.masters.org/news/interviews/inte01876.html And, while the article is no longer there… It was there back in 96. This is the post-tournament interview.   However, note the context – the interviewer asked about the 40 million and brought up that figure, not Greg. Q. Greg, I read that you collected — is it 40 million in your share    of stock? So financially, this is just peanuts to you.    A. Well, yeah, you could say that, yeah. Is it 40 million? Well,       something like that. So there’s a good thing about life, see?       I’ve got something that other people haven’t got. Q. Greg, do you have any feeling of wanting to go out of the room and    just screaming and just letting it all out?    A. I don’t know how I could ever convince you guys —  I know I       screwed up today, but it’s not the end of the world for me. It’s       really not. God, I’d love to be putting this green jacket on here,       but it’s not the end of the world for me. It’s going to continue.       I’ve got 40 million bucks. Q. Greg, what are you going to do with all the money?    A. All the money? Q. The 40 million and the other millions.    A. The other millions and the other millions. Keep going, don’t just       stop at those. Well, my kids are secure for the rest of their life.       My kids’ kids will be secure. I enjoy my toys, as Rick knows.       I think that’s the most important thing. I’ve been able to do       something for my family and the future generation of my family that       nobody’s ever been able to do in my family to this day. And to have       that opportunity speaks volumes in itself.       To set something up that will be able to happen hundreds of years       down the line, it’s like creating something out of nothing. That’s       what makes me feel great. That’s where that money goes. It doesn’t       just sit there. It makes your whole life and your family life feel       so secure.       That’s what hard work’s all about. People might be envious of an       athlete making a lot of money, but, you know, there’s reasons why       you do, too. There’s smart business decisions. The way you approach       life, the way you play the game, the way you capitalize on things,       and I’ve done those. I’ve done them rather successfully.       So that, to me, is the most important. My family is just so secure       for the rest of their lives and their children. -| David "Thor" Collard,   Be the Tree Rooted     -| Member of the non-profit Walking Golf Association   -| http://walkinggolf.org – CHECK IT OUT!

Dan, While Norman did make a comment to that affect (sorry I can’t give a source at the moment, but at the time, iGolf had the entire interview posted online), everyone who uses it on this group uses it out of context. This was just after he had sold $40 million worth of Cobra stock, and of course crashed and burned in the Masters. The interviewers kept asking him about his $40 million over and over and over again (he basically ignored them for the most part) – and finally when they asked him again about it yet again, he made a comment along the lines of *Yes, I still have my $40 million dollars*.  From the context, you could tell he was getting a little annoyed with that question coming up over and over and basically just wanted to put it behind. Cheers, Brian. I have heard this statement from a number of people but I have never seen it attributed. I have heard this statement from a number of people but I have never seen it attributed. Please post the name of the newspaper, wire service, TV network, etc that published this statement. I watched the Masters’ that year and saw Norman’s collapse. I also watched the interviews after the tournament and read the newspapers in the days after this tournament. I have never seen this quote by Norman and I am getting quite tired of hearing about it without anyone being able to show me where and when he said this. If Norman did say this he deserves all of the critisism that anyone would like to heap on him. But I am well aware of how rumors get started and how they can spread like wildfire. When I see this statement verified by a REPUTABLE source I will give it credance. Until that time it is just a rumor and the people speading it are rumormongers. Reputable sources include SI, ABC, NBC, ESPN, etc. They do not include The National Enquirer, The Globe, The Star, etc. They also do not include thinsgs like "Well, I heard from David, who heard from Jack …". They do not include annonymous sources or 3rd party sources. The only acceptable source is a published, direct quote from Norman himself. My apology will be forthcoming immediately if someone would care to show me (and others) the source of what I consider to be a libelous rumor. Hello RSG, This e-mail came to me from our friend here who is so concerned over someone else being a role model. Kind of like the pot calling the kettle black, if you ask me. Randy – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text –     I’m really sick of Tiger Woods.  I believe that when he is at the top of his gane no one on earth can beat him.  But he is certainly not the best most consistent player in golf.  But what really pisses me off about Tiger are his actions on the course.  I had some friends who went to Augusta and said he acted like a complete asshole.  He was throwing clubs all over the place and he took a tree branch and yanked it all the way accross the fairway.  He has a responsibility to act like a gentlemen to all the young people he has brought into this game.  I don’t buy this crap that he is 21 or 22.  I am 21 and have been golfing for a while and it is not hard to control your temper.  I wish the league would step in and fine players like Woods.  He disgusses me.  And yes I would still be saying this if he had won recently. Box E106 39 University Dr. Bethlehem, PA 18015 Pisses you off? An asshole? He *disgusses* you? Somewhere in the back of my mind an old adage about people in glass houses comes to mind… And did I read where you said, "it’s not hard to control your temper?" Randy

Listen you fuckin idiot.  I have a temper but not on the golf course. You and your fuckin bandwagon with Tiger on board can go fuck yourself.  See that 60 degree wedge over there in the corner.  You know what you can do with that?  But I guess you can’t even figure that out.  ANd you call yourself R & B, wow that’s totally fuckin original.  I’d like to see you and tiger playin together and his temper getting the best of him and shoving his fuckin driver down your throat. Best wishes and Fuck Off.

I thought he was trying to point out where the animals eat before they get old????  (They eat THERE, young. . .)  And, isn’t "young" an improper noun?  Shouldn’t it be "eat THEIR OFFSPRING"?  Is that a colloquialism?  When should I use "whom" as opposed to "who"?  Were you being pedantic or semantic or syntactic?     I’ll never be able to hit my golf ball with all of these crazy swingthoughts.  AAAArrrrgggggh!!!!!!!
