Question:
– Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -Well, well. I’ve been off the newwsgroup for a couple of weeks and I see that one thing hasn’t changed a bit. David Laville is still a flaming idiot. : In case you weren’t aware, several weeks later Freddy Couples and Mark : Brooks both had holes-in-one at the TPC Sawgrass. The fans responded : by clapping, cheering and whistling, not one piece of trash was : thrown. : I guess you can say Freddy Couples and Mark Brooks bring a better : class of spectators to the game. David, you can’t blame Tiger for the fact that the 16th at Phoenix is surrounded EVERY YEAR by rowdy and drunken college kids. Tiger didn’t bring this element to Phoenix, as Freddie and Mark didn’t bring the genteel crowd to the TPC at Sawgrass. Maybe I didn’t express myself the way I wanted too, but the way the crowd responded to Woods and the way they responded to Couples and Brooks was totally different. I saw pictures of the tee box and the trash littering it, It sure didn’t look like college kids surrounding the tee box to me. Maybe these players weren’t responsible for bringing in certain crowds, but one fact is undeniable, the reaction of the crowds to the same achievement was totally different. One last thing. if you can’t blame Tiger for the bad element on the course how you justify giving him credit for the good? David Golf Homepage http://www.geocities.com/Colosseum/3580/
There’s nothing wrong with the way Tiger reacted to that ace at Phoenix, and when you think of Fred Couples at the TPC, think also about his reaction at the President’s cup last year, when he sunk the long putt to lock up the trophy for the US team. I’ve never had an ace, but I’ve seen a few (including my wife’s two), and I know exactly how I’ll react when I finally get one. It will probably pale Tiger’s show by comparison. From all I’ve read and heard over the past six months, Tiger is a nice, polite, genteel young man, having been raised with fine qualities. However, I think that what we see and hear of him now is the result of him following some very bad advice from his "handlers" at IMG and Nike, both of which I think are taking advantage of him. There are some things I don’t like about him, but I think everyone reading this would admit that there a some things they don’t like about even the best of their idols. In all, Tiger Woods ON HIS OWN is probably very good for the fine sport of golf, bringing more attention and people (and money) to the game, and raising the bar for the many other excellent players on the PGA Tour. But with his handlers telling him what to do and when to do it, and with all the media pressure, a lot of his actions and comments are coming through in ways that cause some people (including myself) to be less than enthusiastic about him. I think the real test of Tiger will come at the end of the PGA Tour season in the year 2006 (ten years as a pro) — When people hear his name will they say "Wow, he’s really good" or will they respond with "Tiger who?"?

: Tiger’s enthusiasm certainly got me excited about the game of golf. : There’s nothing like the image in Las Vegas after Tiger got the : hole-in-one and the fans went ballistic throwing things out onto the : golf course. It sends chills up my spine every time I see it. : You get chills up your spine when you see someone trash and litter a : golf course? Do you have an orgasm when a garbage truck passes? : Of course, : you’d probably have liked it if they did the golf clap while Tiger : tipped his cap — so proper! Well, it seems like Tiger has gotten the : hint because all he does now is a tiny little fist pump, nothing like : pre-Masters rounds. Spoil sports! :p : In case you weren’t aware, several weeks later Freddy Couples and Mark : Brooks both had holes-in-one at the TPC Sawgrass. Hate to say it, but I agree. The guy is a genius, but he simply doesn’t seem to respect the traditions of the sport. Golf is a sport of decorum–if you want to have a histronic outburst every time you make a good shot, play hockey or basketball or something else.
The traditions of golf are stupid. When Payne Stewart can dress traditionally, and not get laughed off the golf course, that is stupid. When there are still golf courses that you cannot get onto because of i) the stupid tradition of racism,ii) the stupid tradition of improper dress, it is pure lunacy. Good for Tiger, that he is not repressed. If I were worth nine figures before I was 25, I’d be celebrating too. Why do you think Happy Gilmore was so popular? Among other things, because it deservingly ridiculed golf’s stupid "traditions." Amazingly enough, Happy Gilmore was made entirely without support from the PGA.
