Southern Ontario Winter Golf

Question:

Does anyone know any golf courses open during the winter in Southern Ontario? I’m aware of only one: Richview. (Don’t laugh you southerners!  Igloos make good practice in course management.)

Board of Trade nine hole course stays open all year.  They plow the greens and the tees.  Course is private unfortunately.  Camisle stays open all year.  They snowblow the fairways as well as greens and tees. I played there in March during a melt and found as many balls as I lost in the snowdrifts.  There are a few more that remain open but they change from year to year.  I remember that I couldn’t get a time at Richview on December 26 or 27.  It was all booked up. Lot’s of avid golfers around. John Skrypek    Toronto, Canada The Links   http://www.interlog.com/~jskrypek/golf.html

Richview – Oakville area. Hwy 25 south of Dundas Indian Wells – Milton area. Don’t know the street name. Along escarpment. Owned by same people who own Richview. I played Richview yesterday. A few degrees above freezing, very little wind. Only 4 temp greens. Some snow here and there. Overall, it was fantastic! Who’s going to complain when you’re playing golf on December 20 in Ontario? My brother-in-law and I always play during the winter thaws that we occasionally get. We also found a course up in Peterborough near where our wives parents live called Kawartha that is open year round. Next week, during our holiday visit, you can bet my clubs will be in the car! Supposed to be mild next week too… — Patrick Inglis

Whoops! Make that Tuesday, not Friday. These days of retirement just run one into the other, don’t they? Tomorrow’s what? Alzheimer’s Day? hm – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Think there were some open today (Friday) when it was an unusual 10C/50F in the Toronto area. One place to keep your eye on is Scarborough’s Brookside. It generally opens with the weather. Played there on a Dec. 15 myself and know guys who played Christmas and Boxing Day and they’ve been known to open during a January Thaw. All temp greens, though. It’s a  bit of a rough track … but it’s cheap and one of the first to open. hm

The Board of Trade in Woodbridge used to keep a nine open – not sure if they still do. Camisle near Burlington stays open year round. : (Don’t laugh you southerners!  Igloos make good practice in course : management.) And skidoos make dandy golf carts! Robbie
