Hmmmmmmmm…….wonder if I could get the good Dr. to tell me where this nearby where old T.R. and his fishin’ wife lives…….:-) If this were anywhere else in the world the reference to golfers might be a clue – but there must be a zillion golf courses down here so that won’t help!! Salt water: Get a squid, open it up, scrape out the guts and cut it I got an 8 lb mutton and several 2-4 lb yellow tails.
Hmmmmmmmm…….again!! Do tell Dr. – where are ‘you’ fishing here in — – T.R. "Tommy" Lawton —
Response:
Fresh water: I watched a Phil Broussard Cajun fishing show the other day and he was using spring loaded poppers and catching a mess of fish. Having lived in cajun country, this prompted me to go down and by the closest thing to a cajun popper that I could find, a rebel pop -r. I popped and pulled and stopped and flipped for about 15 minutes in a little pond. No action. Suddenly, it was like in slow motion. The water around my pop-r dropped and a huge mouth surfaced and swallowed my lure. About 5 minutes (I don’t remember the time) later, I landed a 10lb large mouth pond bass. I emphasize pond as the bass was not as fat as it could have been. I literally could fit both fists in his mouth. Unfortunately, no one was around except passing golfers in a golf cart. I shouted they cheered, I let the fish go. Man, what a lunker. My last biggest was 8 lbs. They continue to hit the pop-r, although the biggest since has been about 5 lbs. Salt water: Get a squid, open it up, scrape out the guts and cut it into strips about 1" wide. Put the strip on a small gold hook with a 2-3 ounce weight, drop it and wait about 1-3 minutes. The mutton and yellow tail snapper are biting very well. I got an 8 lb mutton and several 2-4 lb yellow tails. They were great on the bbq and with crawfish etoufee over them! A lot of cobia have been pulled in lately by others fishing with bigger rigs and sardines, mostly in the 20-40lb range. cheers
