Should golf be banned ???

Question:

[maybe if some headstones could be removed you could create a golf course at a cemetary..."Headstone Acres" or "Graveyard Gulch"?]

Nah, that would be a monumental failure. Cheers Colin Wilson Trentham Golf Club http://publishing.kyneton.net.au/trentham

I wouldn’t want to reach in the hole for my ball! Or, "dig one out" of a bunker. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -Now if you want to condemn land uses that are destructive and of negative benefit for future generations, consider cemetaries.  They really ARE obscene.  {IMHO of course}

Re:  Golf Course use of Land Most golf courses add to (or at least preserve) the value of land for golf or any other purpose in the future.   Now if you want to condemn land uses that are destructive and of negative benefit for future generations, consider cemetaries.  They really ARE obscene.  {IMHO of course} [maybe if some headstones could be removed you could create a golf course at a cemetary..."Headstone Acres" or "Graveyard Gulch"?] BDW

It is not clear to me whether golf should be considered a sport . There are billions of people with no roof over their heads & golf is taking up valuable real estate.

You’ve got it wrong.  There are billions of people taking up valuable real estate and no room for more golf courses.

Response:

Bobby…The GOOD die young…that lets the rest of us plenty of real estate to play golf.  On the otherhand people who spend too much time in front of their PCs thinking about these issues rather than working to help the poor need to get a job and help the billions of neeedy people. It is not clear to me whether golf should be considered a sport . There are billions of people with no roof over their heads & golf is taking up valuable real estate. Hmmmmmm …… you’re creative juices just don’t flow downhill …. people with no roofs, a sport out of caddies ….. see the connection? So little air inside the human body, and that idle brain of yours occupying the most likely place for it ……

Response:

Are you saying NFL Football is not a sport?  Maybe 3 players in the whole league play offense *AND* defense.

NFL Football is a Business, if you will.  Or, as most of the players of today say, ‘We’re entertainers’, so……that makes the NFL Show Business!  Now College Football.  That’s a sport!!  Go Sooners!! And how can you say golf has no defense?  Why, right here on RSG, the largest portion of our time is spent defending golf from people who claim it isn’t a sport!

Funny!  I’m still grinning from that one.  =)

Should golf be banned (And I would be more than happy to send a rmgroup control message to terminate this group)

YES.  I have being looking for a cure for the torment golf has caused my mind over the years.    All I can think about, is the next game, the last game, that shot I hit 15 years ago across the lake, is my grip rigght, am I turning  my shoulders enough.   My wife wants to talk to me – I say unless you have a cure for my slice dont talk to me again. Kids always get in my way when I pratice my putting on the carpet. Banning golf is my only hope – Please do it quick before i go completely insane.   Hey?, who are these guys in white suits knocking on my door, they must want to jtake me out for a game at that new resort……. Obviously, you’re ‘trolling’ for opinions and probably enjoy golf as much anyone here.  I’m sure you’ll piss off a few and be ridiculed for your thoughts.  Probably be told to F___-off and get the hell outta here by people who don’t like to think. But I for one would be interested in seeing the pro/con arguments about this issue. Personally,  I find the game to be closer to a religious experience than a sport.  But then again I don’t consider Cross Country a sport either.  A sport requires one to play offense and defense.  Golf has no defense. Darts have no defense, bowling has no defense etc. etc. baseball all my life.  I know what sport is.  Racquetball and Tennis are other sports I played.  I also bowl. toss darts and play ping pong but don’t consider those sports either. Track and Field???  The participants are definably athletes, but is running a sport?  Hunting is a sport but are hunters athletes? – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -It is not clear to me whether golf should be considered a sport . There are billions of people with no roof over their heads & golf is taking up valuable real estate. Why should someone consider golf to be an "athletic" sport ? To me it is nothing more than a game like say darts and just a form of elitist pretentious "masterbation" where you you are playing with yourself with no "direct" human opponent. Even pool has somewhat of an opponent. What is the deal here guys ? Should golf be banned (And I would be more than happy to send a rmgroup control message to terminate this group) This is therefore an RFP to impeach golf Let us take votes Whaddayasay ???
