Wondering what RSG think of G. W. Bush and his push for war? Wag the dog. The economy is sucking.

Wondering what RSG think of G. W. Bush and his push for war? Some questions I have: 1. Why does Iraq not like the USA? Is it personal? Is it our hypocritical foreign policy? Is it religious? What would Sadam have to gain by attacking us? Does he want to die? Does he want to loose his power and wealth?

Once Saddam is removed, you’ll find the bulk of Iraqi’s like the USA….. It’s hard for them to say so, with a gun pointed at their heads…. interviews are done with armed guards standing next to citizens and it’s illegal to say anything contrary to Saddam….. Saddam basically is insane….. it’s well documented he’s paranoid and heartless… torture and killing is how he rules 2. What is our government doing to protect us from the inevitable terrorist retaliation we will subject ourselves to? Is there a plan?

We’re already under terrorist attack, nothing changes that for years…… after the Saddam regime is ousted, the terror war becomes more like a global manhunt….. there’s no wall tall enough or manpower to completely stop all mad terrorists…… ask Israel about that… or for that matter the people currently living in Maryland/Washington DC area….. 3. Why are things like the anthrax attacks being ignored, with out even a suspect found? What about the shootings in MD? we can t even protect ourselves at home, how do we expect to do it abroad?

4. How do we justify the fact that most of the biological and chemical agents we are so scared of have been sold to Iraq by the UK, and USA in the first place?

No need to justify that…… it was a mistake from the past….. doesn’t 5. Why does it seem that major media seems to be ignoring any coverage of the anti-war sentiment? An example of this is some of the more interesting speeches made at the anti-war rally in central park this Sunday.

You must be watching a different media than I ….. all I see is coverage of anti-war protests and speeches by the minority of congressmen against the war 6. We haven t even finished with Afghanistan, what makes us think that we will not abandon interest in Iraq after a war just as we did after the Gulf War? If a full commitment would have been made to these UN resolutions 10 years ago we may not have this current problem, but our fickle nation seems to suffer from ADD and total lack of commitment. What happens in 10 years after we have conveniently forgot about Iraq again? We did great things in Germany and Japan at the end of WW II, are we willing to spend that amount of time and money for the people Iraq?

Yes. We, at this point, have no choice but to completely insure democratic nations in Afghanistan and Iraq….. it’ll take years, but it will 7. Isn’t it ironic that G. W. Bush (AWOL), Dick Chaney (in his own words, "had other priorities than military service"), and Richard Perle were not there for their country when they were called to war?

Many of our leaders never served….. that makes no difference to the situation we face…… Big George has no choice but to take down Saddam…… if Bill Clinton had taken out Usama Bin Laden when he first killed hundreds of Americans, we may have prevented 9/11….. as it happened we had the biggest tax increase in American history under Billary, and our defense systems were ignored and deteriorated…… CIA and FBI went to hell in a handbasket…… the main objective of a Government is to protect it’s people from attack…… we were failed by that government….. Big George can not afford to make the 8. Why would we want to set an example that would allow India to invade Pakistan, China to invade Taiwan, or South Korea?

No choice….. and it’s doubtful those events will happen in any case….. 9. Why have none of Iraq’s neighbors beyond Israel felt the same threat as the USA?

You ever hear of a country by the name of Kuwait??? How about the northern Iraqi’s Kurdish population who were bombed chemically/biologically by Saddam thousands being wiped out??? The entire region benefits greatly by Saddam’s 10. Why are the criteria for use of force in flux? First it was inspections, next unfettered inspections, now we demand moving whole families for each person we need to question? Does Bush really want peace?

If Saddam were to wake up sane tomorrow morning, reveal his arsenal, destroy all but the needed army for defense purposes, stop spending 80% of his countries income on new Marble laden Palaces, weapons, and military and spending more on his poor starving people, we may not need to go…… but the odds of that are slim….. you never know, he may accept exile or maybe his own army and people will make the needed moves…… if not, we go get Viker 44

Or maybe, just maybe, the guy who is not afraid to kill his own people if it suits his purpose, has no qualms about invading countries, has great support for international agreements as long as he doesn’t have to follow them, just maybe this guy might throw nukes at his neighbors or the US or whatever target suits his fancy. If Hussein does get nukes and uses them, are you still going to say this is to get attention diverted?

Now don’t jump on me but these are my opinions of what IRAQ thinks – not me.

America is seen as the leader of the Western World and is seen as focusing on capitalism. Iraq etc. see America as dictating values to the rest of the world which lowers the standards that Iraq is trying to protect (e.g. America is a decadent society where religion is largely ignored). America is also successful which I suppose leads also to jealousy. Finally Iraq is a poor place and they need somebody to blame – so they blame the Western World – if America is toppled then everything will be fine. And America support the enemy of the Arab countries – Israel. 2. What is our government doing to protect us from the inevitable terrorist retaliation we will subject ourselves to? Is there a plan?

No matter what the government do there is very little ultimate defence against terrorism – it only needs one stunt to work. How do you defend against a suicide bomber? Terrorists will do their homework and look for weaknesses. They will do dry runs and see if their plan knits together – they use the very freedom that the natives enjoy to disappear into the background. To defeat them is very hard unless you eliminate every one of them and/or you infiltrate them and find out their plans. The only real solution is to get to the root of why they want to do it and try to offer something that keeps them happy (most terrorists actually want to be involved in democracy – but usually it’s so whacky that you couldn’t allow it). Nuking them isn’t the answer because they will breed and breed and eventually pull off another stunt. 9. Why have none of Iraq’s neighbors beyond Israel felt the same threat as the USA?

Most of Iraq’s neighbours do not like America – America is the most despised country in the world (especially the Arab world); followed by Israel. Iraq et al do not see their neighbours as the main threat. It’s the values of the Western World that they see as the threat to their way of life.

Yes. US set up to win real wars, and is totally ill-equipped to "smoke out" terrorists as promised. Iraq is an old identifiable target, has weapons of mass DISTRACTION, and is the Earths 2nd largest resource of precious oil, after another dictatorship, Saudi. If it happens some good might flow from it, as well as cheap oil, and the people there who survive could be better off and benefit from democracy – the first in the arab world.

First off, let me say that I personally don’t mind O.T. posts in rec.sport.golf, because I don’t have time to follow a bunch of other groups and I talk to my golf buddies about other stuff when we play, so it’s all par for the course. Secondly, I am a former Marine, having served in the 10th Marine regiment and later served in the U.S. Army Special Forces with the 20th Special Forces Group. So I feel that perhaps I can give a perspective of someone who has served in the military. I am by no means a "dove".

I don’t believe the Iraqi people dislike the U.S. I believe if we had done what we are talking about doing now, back at the end of the Gulf War, we would have been welcomed as liberators. I don’t think Saddam is stupid, and I don’t think he would pick a fight with us, but that is not to say he is not doing stuff under the table to get at us anyway he can. I think he is. 2. What is our government doing to protect us from the inevitable terrorist retaliation we will subject ourselves to? Is there a plan?

There is only so much a free society can do to protect it’s people and still remain free. That is the terrorist’s immediate goal, to undermine our freedoms through our own government. 3. Why are things like the anthrax attacks being ignored, with out even a suspect found? What about the shootings in MD? we can’t even protect ourselves at home, how do we expect to do it abroad?

I don’t believe the attacks are being ignored. I just don’t think the government agencies reveal everything to the press. 4. How do we justify the fact that most of the biological and chemical agents we are so scared of have been sold to Iraq by the UK, and USA in the first place?

This is a tricky question that could, if possible, be answered by only by some past administration. Our foriegn policy is very wishy washy (That’s an understatment.) Remember Stalin, Batista, the Shah of Iran, Somoza, Noreiga, etc… All good buddies of the U.S. at one time or another, and all despots. And we (the U.S.) wonder why other countries and other governments either don’t trust us or don’t like us! 5. Why does it seem that major media seems to be ignoring any coverage of the anti-war sentiment? An example of this is some of the more interesting speeches made at the anti-war rally in central park this Sunday.

I don’t think this is completely true, but I do feel that the media is swinging from liberal bias to a conservative one. I think that the media secretly would love to have a war going on. The rating for the "news" channels would skyrocket. 6. We haven’t even finished with Afghanistan, what makes us think that we will not abandon interest in Iraq after a war just as we did after the Gulf War? If a full commitment would have been made to these UN resolutions 10 years ago we may not have this current problem, but our fickle nation seems to suffer from ADD and total lack of commitment. What happens in 10 years after we have conveniently forgot about Iraq again? We did great things in Germany and Japan at the end of WW II, are we willing to spend that amount of time and money for the people Iraq?

Those are hard questions to answer. I would hope that if we did decide to go in forcefully remove the regime in Iraq that we would implement some sort of "Marshall Plan". If there is another legacy that the allied forces left behind besides and end to facism at the end of WW2 it would be that Germany and Japan are two of the most peacful, productive, and economically sound nations in the world. (Most of the credit should go to the German and Japanese people for pulling themselves up by their own boot straps, although the allied role of benevolent conquerors deserves some credit.) 7. Isn’t it ironic that G. W. Bush (AWOL), Dick Chaney (in his own words, "had other priorities than military service"), and Richard Perle were not there for their country when they were called to war?

This is a sad fact that guy’s who have rich influencial daddies get some breaks. Even guys that didn’t have rich daddies (Bill Clinton) got to sluff off. I will say that G.W. at least flew F-16’s in the National Guard. Not exactly risk free duty. 8. Why would we want to set an example that would allow India to invade Pakistan, China to invade Taiwan, or South Korea?

We wouldn’t. We will set a dangerous precedent if we unilaterally go off and kick ass on Iraq. What are we going to tell Russia next time they want to invade Georgia because they have some terrorist hiding out there. 9. Why have none of Iraq’s neighbors beyond Israel felt the same threat as the USA?

Because they probably have secret deals with Iraq. 10. Why are the criteria for use of force in flux? First it was inspections, next unfettered inspections, now we demand moving whole families for each person we need to question? Does Bush really want peace?

I really don’t think he wants a peaceful solution. Again our foreign policy changes drastically with every election. Today’s enemies are tomorrow’s friends, today’s friends are tomorrow’s ememies. What this country needs is a consistent foreign policy. If we are going to be the lone major superpower, everybodys big brother and policeman to the entire world, then we better start setting a good example or the next thing you know the entire rest of the world will be against us. If we are going to go to war we better make sure we have a good cause, a good plan to start, a good plan to finish and a good plan to clean up our mess and help out the Iraqi people who are left behind. Regards, Mark Downing
