ANSWER:- (from David Heimbach, MD): Seattle area is super cool if you like beautiful summers and dreary winters. Doesn’t rain any more than Dallas or St. Louis, but there are more cloudy days. Rain comes from November to May (mostly as mist). Too many people moving here, so traffic gets worse every year. Expensive housing (not as bad as California) Life is marvelous if you like the outdoors. Beautiful scenery, water everywhere, and snow covered mountains all year. Can be walking down a mountain stream all by yourself in less than an hour from downtown, climb on a glacier, go sailing, play golf, dig clams all in the same day. Welcome, but don’t spread the word too vigorously.

o you want to move? I’m surprised that you’d have to look so far :afield for work. : :Karen Ortho techs abound in San Diego b/c the program here turns out between 25-30 OT-Cs per year. There *is* a company here that is expanding rapidly and I do have a job interview with them next week. BUT, the competition in this year’s class is *amazing* I’d say 40% of the class already have their bachelor’s degrees (in ex phys and kinesiology mostly) so they have the jump on me, even with my background in bio science. To add to that one of my classmates is an orthopedic surgeon (I kid you not. He is from Mexico and wants to get into an internship program at UCSD so is taking this class as a foot in the door.) Kaiser uses ortho techs too (and are hiring 9 more in San Diego pretty soon) and I can stay in SoCal if I am willing to wait for the "perfect" job <or relocate to Fontana, the Kaiser there needs 3 techs and have needed them for the last 6 months. Trouble is, I can’t wait for the perfect job here in San Diego. BUT, if I am willing to leave San Diego I can find a great job and even get paid to move. The folks in Seattle are flying me up, putting me up in a hotel overnight if need be, and are *desperate* for well trained, well qualified techs. The program I am graduating from is only one of three recognized by the NBCOT and is the #1 program to graduate from. Then too, to go to PA school I would have to leave San Diego anyway. And Washington has at least 2 great PA programs that I know of. So yeah, I am hoping for a job in San Diego or even Riverside, but anywhere in the West (that has trees, one of hubbies pre reqs) is fine by me. And the new userid (should it come to that) will be "K from Cali" or "KaliBlonde" Thanks for asking
