Question:
I’m going to be bringing a group to the LA area in mid-August and am looking for some really good courses to play. We’re fortunate in that we’re going (preferably public) that are worth playing. The only other two courses that I know of are Pelican Hill & Lost Canyons. Can anyone recommend any good places to play? The closer to LA the better. Thanks much.

Rick Sandpiper in Santa Barbara is an excellant public course on the ocean. I’ve played it a couple of times and enjoyed myself every time. Dave

Someone already mentioned Sandpiper, so I’ll suggest Rancho San Marcos in the mountains behind Santa Barbara if you’re up that way. Rancho Park is the best LA city course, you might try there, though getting a tee time is "trying". On the Palos Verdes hill south of LA, I’d recommend Los Verdes, which has cliff-top ocean views on a majority of holes. If you need someone to round out a group at Riviera, feel free to email me. Get ready for Pelican Hill prices if you want to play Los Verdes, $200+. I suggest you head to Orange County. Strawberry Farms GC Aliso Viejo GC, Jack Nicolas design, tough somewhat short track.. Hidden Valley GC, new home of hookers in tents… oh boy! Industry Hills GC, really tough and index cards required to play longer tees. G

Los Verdes is $27 on weekends, Gary, a real steal. Are you thinking perhaps of Ocean Trails? Shag
