lawn watering system

Question:

Other than drip irrigation I know of no other do-it-yourself irrigation system. The Toro’s  systems have improved considerably over the years. Timers are easier to use and set. But for watering grass the Toro pop-ups are great. Just make sure they hide the "boxes" someplace other than in the lawn.    I don’t care what they say – they look tacky! Sure they are green and placed into the ground but there are those ugly green plastic lids that show!! I’ve installed the Better Homes and Garden’s drip system several times now and have been pleased with it’s performance and ease of installation. (Available at Wal-Mart) but it is better suited to the garden not for grass.  May I suggest you call a few different companies for estimates and also call the local golf courses (you want the green’s maintenance dept not the pros) and other places in your area that have installed systems. Most of those that you will contact will be really nice about your calling and very up-front about any problems they have encountered, maintenance of their system and how they feel about the company that installed it or maintains it. Also check your local BBB. If you have any specific questions or are unsure of how to install drip  yourself contact me. Drip needs to be installed in such a way as to evenly disperse the pressure throughout the system. I’ll do what I can to help. Gratis. Bev – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – We are about to enter into a major project of replanning our front and side garden beds.  It will also include a new walkway and edging.  I’m thinking, with everything torn up, it may be a good time to consider an underground watering system.  Where are some good sources for planning and cost estimates.  Any good or bad experiences in "do it yourself" systems sold at some of the large home centers?  Thanks.
