Ken Pitts Where's you outrage?

Question:

Ken, The NG hasn’t heard from you yet about this happening at the Hartford open last weekend.   Did you see Stephen Ames unzip his pants, reach in and adjust his "private parts" – All on camera! :-O :-O

I sure did – he spent several seconds in there, adjusting quite a bit!  You think they would’ve panned the camera away, but it stayed focused on him the whole time :) Why aren’t you busy writing  letters to sponsers and everyone else under the sun about this ?   You surely did this to Tiger  or do you think that playing with oneself on TV doesn’t rise to the level of  Tiger’s cursing . — Art R

Response:

That is a breach of etiquette for sure. There are portable toilets everywhere at tour events. Ames could have used better judgement and done that in private. Maybe he was raised in a barn. FWIW, this is the first I’ve heard of it.  Now, how many other instances do we have for Ames ? I’ve been complaining about Tiger since 1997 because his foul antics never end. Ames adjusting his jewels is gross but not as offensive as Tiger yelling "Gddmn fckng prck" on live national TV. It goes double since he is the most visible player in the game. You would think he could gather the maturity to act the part.  YMMV. Ken – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -This is a multi-part message in MIME format. Response:

I would only point out that there is a difference between doing something that is an embarassing and doing something that is offensive. While I don’t believe this is/was the substance Ken Pitts view, my own is that I don’t condone the lack of respect and the lack of self-control exhibited by some tour pros. The profanity is one thing but it is another when accompanied by some childish fit (Tiger Wood’s outburst on 18, David Duval tearing up the 18th fairway at Augusta, Davis Love demolishing a sprinkler head, etc.). Someone adjusting himself on TV is embarassing, perhaps to some disrespectful but I don’t consider it as unhealthy or as unsportsmanlike as throwing a tantrum on the course. — JoePete

Response:

It’s not only a breach of etiquette,  It’s a  criminal act punishable by jail time.  You really do have a double standard.  In reality both Ames and Tiger did something inadvertant because they were focused on the competition, neither deserves any censure.  But you Ken can’t see it that way, you can dismiss one persons slip but not the others.

If Tiger had let loose with these profane outbursts only a time or two over the span of his career, I would be willing to let it slide. But it happens over and over and over along with them being directed at spectators and garnished with abuse of golf courses. As the number one player in the world and a player whose popularity extends beyond the normal fans of golf, he should realize that the camera and mic are always on him from the minute he sets foot out of the locker room. He is compensated $$$MMM to be the spokesman of mainstream companies like Buick and American Express. I’m sure they would appreciate it if he would be a little more professional and learn to control the content of his histrionics. Look at previous #1 players. Norman, Watson, on national TV repeatedly ? Tiger has a behavior problem and he needs to do something about it.   Did Ames have his dick out showing to all in the gallery and the TV audience while leering at everyone ? I think it would have to be that bad before it starts to be criminal. Are you not able to read ? I did not dismiss Ames actions. My original post contained the following. Ken, Don’t worry about it – I have also been under examination.  Don’t take it too personally, but do learn from it. I was just trying to be funny about the "balls of significance" and certainly did not mean any harm to you. Hopefully, you did not take it that way. We all have opinions that is the great part of being a human being. My best buddy and I go at it all the time – sometimes on the course – we just tell each other how we feel and then forget about it – we have been friends for 36 years and would do anything for each other. Most of us here have said something that did not come out the way we wanted it to sound and then the first reaction is to defend ones self. Others however, do get a little too expressive but it still does not mean that they are not good people. I do believe that you are a little too concerned about Tiger’s language but that is your feeling and your right.  It sure would be boring if everyone here agreed with each other on every issue.   So, I say to all who are interested – lets remember that we all have opinions, lets try to back off on the "over reaction" when someone disagrees with us and try to keep it a little more respectful. Believe me – I plan on heeding my own advice. I am also fairly confident that if we all got on the course for one big outing we would have a great time and get along fine.  The one thing we have in common is Golf – and that AIN’T Bad!! Don Lets talk Golf!! – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – I can agree with that. Why should the camera reamain on him ? If you will review the thread, I am the one under examination here. Ken
