Question:
- Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – As a potential honarary old man from a stayed english golf club, I am hoping to book a holiday, possibly to north America, possibly elsewhere in the Empire… can British subjects out there tell me what the golf courses are like in the far reaches of our great Empire eg Virginia, New South Wales, Rhodesia, Cyprus, India, Georgia, Ontario…etc etc etc etc etc etc I say old chap … golf in the colonies is damn spiffing! Taking all the factors into account … endless sunshine, courses from world-renowned to country gems, incredibly cheap golf fees, every facility from first-class to budget, ease of travel, coaches, lack of crowds … that you won’t find anywhere in the world as good for golf as the Antipodes. For golfing Meccas, Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane/Gold Coast can provide it all (in that order). What’s more we *do* speak English … well, a sort of mangled version. So hop on the plane, be prepared for that long 22-hour jet-lag inducing flight on the world’s safest airline (or your own British Airways if you prefer), and relish the unimaginable rewards at the other end. How’s that for a "bouquet", or is it "bucket"? (You’re not related to her are you? She’s just been here!) I would agree with everything Colin says. The area from Adelaide to Sydney is wonderful both from the point of view of golf and the pure pleasure of traveling – the wine, the scenery etc. Perth is also worth a visit. If the thought of the long journey is too much, think about breaking it in Thailand. The golf there is also spectacular even though it doesn’t fit your aim of colonial golf! Cheers Bob (who has played bad golf in a lot of places!)

Well old boy, that certainly sounds like a smashing idea. Why not make the trip out to the North American colonies. Both Upper and Lower Canada have an abundance of fine, private courses where you can enjoy a game of golf then retire to the mens’ grill for a spot of port and perhaps a game or two of cribbage with your new chums. Just tell the lads in the pro shop you are from the old country and there should be no problem finding a game. I understand the Titanic sails from Bristol next week.
