It is a tough field to crack. My advice would be to get some training – either a degree in Landscape Architecture or Landscape Horticulture and look for a job with a construction company – plan on spending several years learning before you get into any aspect of design. Either that or get on Tour, win a bunch of events, make a name for yourself and then start designing golf courses. The University of Guelph in Canada offers a correspondence course called Golf Course Design & Construction that is an excellent introduction to the field.
