Question:
Does anyone have any ideas for places to go in the colorado, western NE and KS, and WY areas for general avaition pilots. Any info on airport restaurants, flying museums, adjacent golf courses, fly-ins….I’ve flown to Greely,CO for breakfast at the barnstormer restaurant and would like to continue exploring. Thanks Mark Vessely BJC

Mark, The following information is 4 years old… Sidney Nebraska (SNY) is just around the corner. On initial contact with Unicom you will be asked if you need a ride to ‘Kabeles’ (spell?) which you’ll answer Yes. Kabeles claims to be the largest store for outdoors equipment in the US. They have large, well arranged wild life display (stuffed) and huge aquarium. The ‘Buffalo sandwich’ is recommended… Pueblo (PUB) has a nice aircraft & other transportation display. I strongly recommend to verify their opening hours, One Saturday morning I flew a friend with his two kids just to find ourselves watching the display through the fence. The airport restaurant is O.K. Enjoy, — Yuval Stein Sales Executive & Senior Engineer – TechMate Division IET – Intelligent Electronics Ltd. I believe your refering to "Cabelas". I’ve never been there but it is apparently well worth the trip. –Tom– – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Mark, The following information is 4 years old… Sidney Nebraska (SNY) is just around the corner. Mark, Anywhere… Depending on what you’re flying (y’know, the mountains and all that!) Pueblo — decent restaurant, aircraft displays Santa Fe, NM — nuff said, and a very easy over-mountain hop. St Francis, KS for the Stearman Fly-in (see posting on that subject) Mt Rushmore – a pretty easy flight, though a lot of barren country to pass through Moab Utah – if you’re going to cross the mountains, go somewhere real good! These are some of the places my wife and I have flown to since moving out here 6 years ago. Are you looking for stuff close by, or are you willing to travel a little? The Colorado pilots Association lists many of them in their newsletter. Go to Cabela’s…It’s incredible. When you are about 20 miles from the airport, call unicom and tell them you want a ride. You will have a van waiting for you on the field. If you are an outdoors person, bring your credit cards…It’s a very easy place to spend money.
