Florida RSG update(4/2-4/4)

Question:

Cheap and clean works for me.

- Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – I have not decided on a format yet.  Of course the emphasis will be on fun and not competition, but if someone has a format to suggest, I’m all ears Eric "the Hammer" sounds like a great time…formatwise? NO SCRAMBLES. I agree.  While scrambles can be fun,  I want to play my ball against the course.  And when you are talking about paying $50-$75 per round, I don’t feel like I get the bang for my buck.  I once played in a charity tournament and even though it was for a good cause and a beautiful course, playing alternate shot really took away from my enjoyment of the round. So…there will be no scrambles, unless there is a big concensus for one. Florida RSG will be for fun and comraderie on some beautiful courses, and the competitve aspect will be minimalized..  And being in April, it may be the first time that some golfers coming from the colder climates have played, so I want them to get the most enjoyment out of the experience. With a one nam scramble, you get two shots per shot; two rounds for the price of one. The operator of the course won’t like it if you start getting Estes’s like with shot selection though, as it can get slow, but it’s a lot of fun. I’m thinking of a one man scramble, play it as it lies, regardless, for RSG-MS first round (Mudbug Madness) at Brookhaven (what better way to get to know the course) — RSG Masters 2004 pre-preliminary format http://home.att.net/~frostback2002 RSG Roll Call: http://rec-sport-golf.com/?rc=frostback "The privilege of a lifetime is being who you are"    Joseph Campbell

And while you doubt you can make it, who knows.  Would enjoy meeting you, as would a lot of the rest of us.  .  You always have a lot of good stuff to say in this forum.

Thanks, Eric.  I don’t see it happening, although it does sound like fun.  I would love to play a round with you.  Why don’t you come on out for RSG-Morgan Run?

I had a girlfriend like that once…but she dumped me :(

Response:

two-person teams True alternate shot match play. if the putt is conceded, the person who is next to putt will have been deemed to have putted.  Or variations thereof.

True alternate shot matchplay has one player teeing off on all odd numbered holes and his/her partner teeing off on all even numbered holes. Lumpy.

Alternate shot is great fun provided you are all reasonably good players. A team with two good players will have a huge advantage over a team that has a bad player on it, though. (I doubt that I can make it, so my opinion probably doesn’t matter that much.)

Hey Bill, No question about it.  Not that I am any great player, but when I last did alternate shot, we had a newbie who was very nice and tried hard, but she whiffed at least 1/3 of her shots.   Needless to say, our team was "dead meat" from the start. And while you doubt you can make it, who knows.  Would enjoy meeting you, as would a lot of the rest of us.  .  You always have a lot of good stuff to say in this forum. Eric "the Hammer"

I agree.  At those prices, most people would like to play golf.  Now if you should play an extra 9 after the official round, that might be a fun thing to do. I liked the format we played at Bradshaw Farms during Saturday’s second round of RSG-ATL 2K1.  What was that called, anyway?

Have been on the phone speaking to  golf courses and lodging establishments trying to see what is out there in the north Tampa area  for our gathering in early April. It seems like most of the golf courses will not commit to tee times more than 60-90 days out, so I will not be able to finalize the golfing itinerary until early next year.  Potential courses will be World Woods, Westchase, Fox Hollow, Lake Jovita, Hernando Oaks, The Dunes, El Diablo,  Dunedin.  We will play 18 on Friday pm, 36 on Saturday, and 18 early Sunday with an additional 18 that pm for those who can stay till the evening.   I promise to have you’all so worn out you will go back to work for a rest!!!   Have looked at a variety of lodging options.  There is a wide range from condos in the $100-140 area to basic lodging at a Best Western or Comfort Inn in the $60-70 range.  There is also a very nice place in Crystal River called the Plantation Inn that has a great 27 hole course.  Check it out at www.plantationinn.com My preference is cheap, but clean lodging, as we usually spend little time in our rooms during these outings.  What are your preferences before I go out and negotiate something for the group? I am guessing the cost of the golf to be in the vacinity of $250 give or take.  In addition, I am thinking about golf shirts ,bag tags, and other assorted goodies to give out for door prizes and winning performance so maybe another $ 50 for that. Will be asking for formal sign-ups in early/mid January.  The $50 for the shirts and goodies will be the only thing payable up front and that will comprise your "deposit" for participation.  I will do everything to make this a great time for everyone and any suggestions are most welcome.  Feel free to bring your friends, family,  and co-workers as the more the merrier. I have not decided on a format yet.  Of course the emphasis will be on fun and not competition, but if someone has a format to suggest, I’m all ears Eric "the Hammer"
