Question:
Got a chance to try something that I always knew would be cool, fishing on golf course lakes for bass! Got to fish the waters on the 3rd hole at Palm Valley CC in Palm Springs. The pond was planted with about 1000 bass fry 5 years ago. The fish are now all about 14-16 inches in length, healthy and mean! I had never caught a largemouth before and I can see why people can get addicted to it. If you know of any "secret" bass holes on a golf course, post ‘em here. I will now be carrying an ultra light rig in my bag with the clubs. Remember, catch and release. Later Dave DGruper

I would say most definitely catch and release. I would not want to eat them. There are probably few locations of fresh water impoundments that consistantly have higher levels of toxic chemicals than golf courses. That’s not the message of your thread, so let me backtrack. Golf courses do make for some good fishing. Most grounds keepers can tell you come good ones. My son has been fishing at night on a local golf course, with pretty good luck for bass. I’m glad he doesn’t bring them home. My daughters old boyfriend is a grounds keeper in Utah, and he and his co-workers have good luck with trout there. Small impuondments with bass that get little or no fishing pressure can really yield a few "King of the Pond" monster bass. Fore or Strike? Jim/San Diego

Thanks for bringing back memories of sneaking onto golf courses at night when I was in high school to fish (wow – almost 20 yrs ago). We used to fly fish our local golf course ponds and catch hoardes of trout during specific hatches, all catch and release of course. Sure we got caught about every 3-4 times we went, but it was worth it. They always just told us to go home. No, we were not members….!!!
