Question:
Today I went driver, 9I on a 425 yard par 4, for example, but the 9i, with my usual draw, leaked to the right and rolled into a hazard on the right side of the green (no wind to speak of either, just the frickin’ low spin balls they make theses days not holding their line!); so I get a double.
You want someone to believe that a 9 iron that leaks to the right into a hazzard is the result of the dynamics of a low spin ball?
Response:
This is the first time in a while that my USGA index has not gone under 10 in the summer. We start back again next week, and I won’t have the same amount of time to devote to golf. I suppose it could be that this year, for the first time ever really, I’m regularly playing a lot of different golf courses as opposed to the same old course time after time with a few more or less vacation rounds at other courses. What’s a little infuriating though is that I’m hitting the ball better than I thought I ever could, let alone better than ever! I actually play the par 5’s…that’s par 5’s…..to even par today but still shoot an 85. I wish I could claim to have lost my concentration on the back 9, as I really sucked on the back 9, but I hit a perfect drive, slightly pulled but fully serviceable 2nd shot and perfect 6I to the green on the par 5 18th, and gagged on the 5 footer for birdie! Our team lost by one stroke! I’m just sick and tired of shooting 85’s! Hopefully dedication to the short game will do something for me over the rest of the summer. I think that I also have to start looking at a 140 yard shot to the green, for example, as a 140 yard shot to the green. I am letting different layouts affect me too much. Worrying about the layout of this or that hole affects shot selection, of course, but after the shot is selected, a 140 yard shot to the green is a 140 yard shot to the green, regardless of the presence of water hazards here or there or trees or bunkers or whatever! They are the same 140 yard shots I hit on the driving range! — RSG Masters 2004 pre-preliminary format http://home.att.net/~frostback2002 "The privilege of a lifetime is being who you are" Joseph Campbell
