Just look at how often they’ve been airing the Catholic priest sex problems on TV here. Certainly there are a few priests who did commit these acts some years ago, but the American media gives the topic far too much broadcast time. The American media should spend more time helping solve such problems as * America’s high crime rate. yes, and what american wants higher levels of taxation to accomplish this? if you love social capitalism, go live in europe… or maybe here in canada where every person born owes tens of thousands of dollars in debt because of our socialist democratic values, driven by ‘do-gooders’ who forgot to take economics and accounting in high school. down east, our provincial government introduced its first balanced budget in 40 years!! all the socialists running around whining because of cut backs particularily to education and health care which are the biggest drains on public spending. but when the government initiates fees everybody complains that its a ‘tax grab.’ sure it is! but its the people who use the service that pays the fee. i don’t mean to make a sweeping generalization, so understand this is a specific case that is all too common: a friend of mine has been on social assistance for years, medical coverage, rent, living allowance. what does she complain about? not enough money for cigarettes (until they found out how it infuriated me). this person is asthmatic(sp?), and the government pays for here puffers, over $100.00 a month, plus medicine for her breathing machine at home. doctor has said that if she quit smoking she wouldn’t need to use the puffers, and ocassionally her machine at home. will she quit, no. and why should she, its her life, no one has the right to tell her what to do. and if i have to pay for her choices, so be it, that’s the beauty of socialism. she was trouble digesting her food. more pills, won’t change her diet. complications with her legs due to over weight, won’t lose weight. adult onset diabetes, for the usual reasons which have been listed. no need to be personally responsible. always someone elses fault. medications that cost hundreds of dollars every month. and i would gladly pay it through taxes if there was just an ounce of consideration and effort to improve their own life and be responsible. JP, here in America our media puts anything it likes on television, regardless of whether the people want it. They don’t ask the American public what they’d like to watch. Proof is that most Americans want less violence on TV. The American media companies like CNN and Time Warner could care less. These media companies don’t send a questionairre to each American every year asking them what they want on television. They put whatever they like on TV, promoting whatever makes quick money, regardless of the effect that, say, violence has on children. it is not the place for news corporations to do what government is elected to do.
The American media basically runs the American government here. Our media went after Clinton over the Monica Lewinski affair, broadcasting the story constantly, every day for months and months to the point where Congress was forced to have impeachment hearings against Clinton. Some people say the American government has power? No. The American media has power. Right now the American media is in the process of making Israel look like a dangerous aggressor, when it is actually trying to weed out terrorists, and making Catholic preists look like child molesters, when only a tiny minority are guilty of this.

Alerting advertisers to ‘Dr.’ Laura’s biggotted views worked to get ‘Dr.’ Laura off of many a tv channel. Even ‘Dr.’ Laura has been taken of News Talk WLS 890 AM out of Chicago. Jail time, with proper councelling to prevent repeat offenders seems like the most viable answer. People argue that we can’t waste all the money like that. But we end up wasting it in the long run with reincarceration and more trials. The chain basically goes: programs are put on air to reach certain audiences, and money is made selling advertising spots to advertisers. advertisers, unless you are suggesting they are conspiring here (which is possible), are the ones who are interested in getting the viewers to spend money on their product and service. if people weren’t watching the crap, no advertisers. and if people weren’t watching the crap, they wouldn’t complain about the crap on tv because they are watching something else. advertisers wouldn’t be investing, and nor would networks try to sell time for programs that aren’t being watched. you are not being completely rational here. you are suggesting that they are putting crap on that people dont’ want to watch. if they really don’t want to watch it, they wouldn’t and the networks would not be able to convince advertisers to spend good money on the air time available. the real problem is not media controlling the government, it is that media has become ‘big business.’ and in an effort to make more money, they want more viewers. because they can demand more money from advertising and/or subscriptions to their news service. so what do they put on? what the public is willing to watch. government concedes to the public pressure that is brought upon it by the media making the ’soap’ induced public aware of what was going on in the world. most people are quite willing to use tv and news as a form of entertainment. political (and religious) activists use the media to motivate their viewers to action. but none of this would happen without the pay-off at the end of the day. Very true. The media in America seems to be run by a group of atheistic, money-loving pigs. Denigration of Christianity seems to be the norm. Bull…90 percent of the news broadcasts/shows I see SUPPORT Christianity.
I think it depends what side you’re on. programs like CNN and FOX cram every spare second with some derogatory story about priests being child
molesters. People are sick of hearing about this crap. Plus these same goofy media companies offer
psychology counseling as being the answer to this small priest problem.
I wouldn’t say it’s "the answer"…but it’s certainly a piece to the solution of the puzzle… Most Americans don’t believe in things like "child molester counseling"
instead of jail for molesters, nor do they believe in constantly taking their kids to psychiatrists for
Ritalin when they have problems. The American media, however, continues to promote this outdated psychology

You’re talking about two COMPLETELY separate disciplines…I agree…psychiatrists, while having their place for the neurologically challenged in society (schizophrenia, bipolar disorders and whatnot) rely much too heavily on medication as an absolute solution…think of it this way…a psychiatrist is a doctor who treats psychological disorders symptomatically…he’ll find out what the psychological problem is and try to rectify it by using drugs that have historically helped that condition…someone’s depressed? Well, Paxil has worked for many, we’ll try that…SSRI’s don’t work? OK, let’s try some Nardil…MAOi’s don’t work? Let’s try a tricyclic…it’s all about finding which chemical masks the disorder the most efficiently…a psychologist on the other hand won’t use medicine unless he really needs to and will try to actually get to the bottom of the neurosis and help the person that way by showing them that it IS a disorder, can be helped and how…you’re throwing them into the same boat and then saying "…and they’re nonsense" without any evidence… Americans want criminals held responsible for their actions if they commit

values of right from wrong. Psychology has been one of the biggest failures in America since it was

That’s because it hasn’t even been reasonably used, not even in collaboration with jail time. What you completely fail to mention is that jail, while being used to our greatest ability is just as laughable of a failure…the vast majority of people who are in jail will end up back there…frankly, I’d like to see some solid use of psychology IN the jail setting because the cost of keeping all these prisoners is mind-boggling…Just the drug prisoners alone cost us 400,000,000,000 a year… The American media companies should rightfully back off the Catholic

I think on the first point he meant counselling for child molesters…and I agree on the second point…drugs have their place, but many psychiatrists just pump pills into people without any real reason…someone’s having some trouble getting up in the morning and their GP has them on some hard-core amphetamine… Americans want criminals held responsible for their actions if they

That is my only worry for "good Christians"…there won’t be any sin/sex/scandal to keep them amused and God has no plans to provide diversion. They’ll end up spending eternity staring at the 200-foot thick walls around Heaven. or spend their time with their nose buried in their armpit, thanking the Lord for getting rid of the nasty odor. They most certainly do…it’s called ratings… Proof is that most Americans want less violence on TV.
