Question:
Are there any affordable golf courses on the island that are happy to see tourists? Thanks, John

Forget affordable. In my mind, if you go to Maui, you *must* go to Kapalua. Forget about how much it costs. The Plantation course is simply one of the greatest golfing experiences in the world. The course is amazing, the staff is excellent, the clubhouse is beautiful, the locker room is immaculate, and the food in the grill is outstanding. You will never forget the experience. A round on the Plantation Course costs $125, the Bay and Village courses cost about $100. It is worth every single penny. If you are flexible in where you stay, they have some loging packages that include a villa and unlimited golf at the three courses (including carts) for about $150 a day. Check if any of the courses have "twilight" rates. Over on the Big Island, my husband and I played 18 holes at Mauna Kea for $50 each, cart included. You just had to start after 3:00 pm. The King’s Course at Waikoloa had a similar deal. This was in late April of this year. It’s nice because you can do the beach thing, snorkel, and what not in the morning and most of the afternoon, then do your golf. Kitty Panza — | 1434 W. My girlfriend and I played Waiehu last year and found it to be one of the nicest municipal courses anywhere. We played during twilight rates and the starter was very cool to give us the resident rate as well = $8.00 ! I’m sure it’s not as manicured as Kapalua and such, but it’s on the ocean and well taken care of.
