Question:
snip Where do ya want to live in a trailer? In Albama, almost anything is OK. Hey, maybe that’s OK with you? some folks sleep under bridges! Will KD3XR
In Alabama, I keep my trailer parked under a bridge. Yes, in Alabama, we’re poor, ugly, have tacky RV’s. Stay away, especially from our sugar white sand beaches! Ugliest beaches in the world, covered with the ugliest people in the world. If I keep this up, how long before I have the beach all to my self? Wit has truth in it; wisecracking is simply calisthenics with words. -Dorothy Parker – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text –

Where do ya want to live in a trailer? In Albama, almost anything is OK. North of the Mason Dixon line (except in Ohio where there is an exemption from freeze damage! – HA!) there is no rv made that is truly comfortable in prolonged cold weather. Liveable if you buy a lot of fuel – but comfortable? No way. Insulation slows the rate of heat loss, but you will still pump a lot of fuel into even the best rv. I have no idea of the capabilities of WebTV, but I assume that you can browse the Web. Listed are some urls: www.yahoo.com www.dejanews.com http://www.ocis.net/~lesd/index.html http://www.trailerlife.com/index.html http://www.big-toys.com/rvs/recreational-vehicle-manufacturers.html Good Luck with your search! Summers are a delightful 118 degrees and no shade. Winters are even worse. Golf courses are target areas for militia and other moderate groups. Stay away-for your own safety! We have been full timing for 8 years with our London Air 5th wheel and still love it. I rather have a 5 to 10 year old newmar (london air or Kountry Air) then a brand new cheap model. Bob

The appliances tend to be the same in all rigs. The big difference between makes is in the chassis, framing, insulation, skin attachment system, interior wall material and cabinetry. My wife and son worked for some time at an RV dealership and I learned a lot from that. My son had some horror tales about the framing constuction of some makes and I saw some of it. Some of the better known makes tend to shed their skin and have their doors jam up when the chassis bows down. Some of the interior wall material is little more than cardboard. I won’t try to tell you the makes to beware of. I will tell you that I bought a used Newmar brand (Kountry Aire) fifth wheel 23 years ago based on what I saw. Subsequently bought two more Newmars as we went for more roominess. Our present one is a London Aire and I am perfectly happy with it. The first one we sold to our son. he had it until three years ago and then we gave him our second one. He sold the first one to an old fellow that lives in it. It is now 26 years old. We have toured a half dozen factories and watched particularly the framing assembly methods. I became even more enamored with Newmar. The roofs are a lot thicker than most makes and are loaded with insulation. Some makes use a newer construction method using foamed in place insulation and/or foam core paneling. It makes for a very rigid and well insulated wall which is less prone to have moisture build-up from living in the rig in cold weather. For an eye opener, try running a search on "delamination" in this news group. Generally speaking, you get what you pay for. Bob KU8C
