Question:
that holds true for any other pain killers on the market.
Response:
Really? Kidney damage? I didn’t know that. My doc advises me to take 800 mg. ibuprofen any time I have arthritic pain, which I frequently do in my knee joints. I take 800 (4 motrin) before every round, and my knees don’t bother me. Neither, AFAIK, do my kidneys. How does the damage show up? And can you give me a URL where this is documented? I’d like to talk to my doc about it. I have a history of kidney stones, and sure don’t want to risk another of those! I’m told it’s worse than labor pains. I’ve delivered two of ‘em, and don’t want any more of those offspring, for sure. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Carry a bottle of Advil. Advil..in moderation is OK. I am wondering… … what is the best preventative and follow up pain killers and inflammation fighters? I typically take some aspirin before and after playing. I do not have any trouble with my stomach when taking aspirin. Is there a better way to go? RJ … – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Carry a bottle of Advil. -joseph

Carry Clif bars in your bag. They’re great. (usual disclaimer) – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – I managed to get in 54 holes today; two rounds of 18 and two rounds of 9. Great timing on the post, Frosty. On May 21 I’m taking part in "The Longest Day of Golf", a fundraiser for the MS Society here in Central PA. We’re planning on at least 54, maybe more, at Lebanon Valley GC. I’m planning on lots o’pasta for dinner the night before. Anybody have any other recommendations to fuel the body so I don’t run out of gas? And if anyone would care to sponsor my effort, feel free to e-mail off list.

Actually, you really do not need to eat a lot before golfing all day. You’ll burn 300-500 kcal/hr, around or just slightly over what you can metabolize from body fat on a sustained basis. Just have some Gatorade or soda from time to time and a little starchy food like crackers or the occasional candy bar. All you really need is water and sugar! And this is if you’re walking. If you’re riding, you must be joking, tired after 54 holes? Carry a bottle of Advil. -joseph – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Carry Clif bars in your bag. They’re great. I was up there a couple of summers ago and checked it out. If memory serves, there is very little golf. The farthest north that we went was Fairbanks and I think that they had 1 or 2 9 hole layouts. Andy – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -Wonder if they have any courses in northern Alaska. Man, imagine the rounds you can rack in during the summer when the sun practically stays up 24/7

85 degrees F..what’s that in Celsius, lol.. CAnt be below 15 degrees. That’s poor weather? Jeez..u guys ARE spoiled. =P

Oh, MAN. My record in a car is something like 880 miles in one day (Fresno to Phoenix "by way of" Death Valley, which is definitely not on the way). That was a pretty good haul. -joseph – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – There’s an annual 100 holes in one day tournament in Hawaii … I hope to play in it one of these years. -joseph Sounds like a LOT more fun than the day I rode 1000 miles on my motorcycle! Response:
You start playing like a zombie if you aren’t used to it. But there’s a lot of good golf you can play even though you are a little tired. You learn not to waste effort, and to concentrate when it counts.
You really learn the concept of playing within yourself.

man..how long did that 3 rounds of golf take u??
I got the first 18 in in a little less than 3 hours, had lunch, hit some balls and then did the 2nd 18, and was done by about 4. I then decided to go for 9, and was done by 5:15. The MGA started at 5:30…AND TOOK TILL 7:45 TO FINISH 9!!! No wonder I have trouble playing in that group! I could get around fairly fast because it was one of those partly cloudy days, about 85 degrees F with a slight breeze, an dthus there weren’t many people on the course. Only fools like me go out in such poor weather!

Probably doesn’t hurt as much as mine after a 240 mile bicycle trip (2 days). I agree. How you play the final 9 holes of a 36 hole (or more) day is a good indicator of how ‘grooved’ or solid your swing is. Real good swings are virtually all technique and don’t require much effort, so being a little tired does not cause any problems and may even help. But there is a limit, if you get too tired it doesn’t matter how good your swing is, it will fall apart if you are exhausted. — Dan Driscoll Member USGA, NCGA RSG FAQ: http://ttsoft.com/thor/rsggolf.html RSG Roll Call http://u1.netgate.net/~kirby34/rsg/driscolld.htm
Response:
I don’t know exactly what that limit is. It amazes me when I see Tiger play with the flu, because when I try to play with a fever I can barely hit the ball. Clearly this is a skill one can develop. Apparently Tiger was under the weather during at least the last round or two of the Masters this year, and spent 4 days sick in bed afterward. -joseph – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – You start playing like a zombie if you aren’t used to it. The most I ever played in one day was about 45 holes (all walked). I was darn tired and sore to say the least. It felt good though. It feels great to get some serious walking in. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – I’ve walked 54 in one day (earlier this year) and ridden 108 in one day (a couple years back). And this is at Phoenix latitude. No "midnight sun" to help. I could certainly walk 90 in one day but unfortunately I don’t know of any walkable golf courses sufficiently hard up for business that I could actually play 5 2-1/2 hour rounds on. When I played 108 it was a Tuesday in early July and I probably only passed 10 groups that whole day (I had a membership at the course in question). -joseph man..how long did that 3 rounds of golf take u?? i thought i was nuts when i played 27holes last year with range time, lol….man, this takes the cake
Response:
I managed to get in 54 holes today; two rounds of 18 and two rounds of 9. I have started to lean into the shot lately, and have been shanking a lot of shots on the range and the odd chip on the course (I don’t try to jump on it as much on the course). As I started to tire on the 36-54th holes (7 over for 36-38, even par for 39-45) I started to play much more conservatively, and was at all costs trying to avoid leaning into the shot. I found that generating the thought of leaning BACK during the downswing, but still swining through (thus it is physically impossible to lean back) prevented me from leaning forward during my downswing. The nice thing is that I can really feel the power from the right side, but not really get aggresive with the right hand. The driver sucked (as it did all day) however, but maybe with some work on the range I can iron this problem out. Just as I started to hit the ball real well, I had to get into this leaning forward thing. I wonder what is next?
