What was your all time luckiest and unluckiest shots?

Question:

My luckiest shot was. The only shots that come to mind is a 8 footer on very aerated greens.  The putt broke left and my ball was already left of the hole, when it hit a couple of huge spike marks and took big bounces right.  The ball hopped onto the left rim of the hole, and after about a 1 second delay, fell in. Everyone I was playing with couldn’t believe it.  They had never seen anything like it. My unluckiest shot was. A wedge to a par 5 with the pin tucked in front over a lake.  I hit the pin on the fly, and the ball bounced back into the lake. — Andy Koppel

My luckiest and best shot I have ever made was a 30 yard chip.  I get my chipper out and my brother is watching me on the left.  The marshall pulls up on top right near a clearing and is going to watch the shot.  I see him and right behind him are the foursome in the next fairway and they catch my eye and stop right past the marshall to also view the action. I chipped it onto the green, rolled down at an angle and into the cup! It was great, but what I really liked, was having everyone watching at that exact moment.  What are the chances that not only me and my partner, the marshall, and a foursome from the previous fairway all watching at that exact moment?  I was really excited! My worst shot was a putt to tie a game (My brother and I, versus our two much older, better uncles).  I only had to make the putt to tie the game and I was only a few feet away.  I missed and made the next one.  My brother and I have been trying to beat our more experienced uncles for 2 years and this was the closest we ever came to doing it.  To us, a tie was just as good as beating them as it would prove we could keep up with them.  For some reason there was alot of pressure to make that little putt and I got scared. :( While it was nothing special as far as toughness to make the putt, the pressure was too much and I have always remembered it.  That is one of the most difficult shots in golf, with the ranger and others watching, good show.  I flew a par 3 with a lake behind it, it hit a lonely palm tree square in the trunk and reversed back to within 3 feet, and I walked away with a bird in hand and a ear to ear smile, thanks to the golf gods.  The worst shot, was when I played a match with three friends who were down three shots and I drove down the middle of the fairway and the ball wasnt there when I got there, back to the tee, and back to being a loser after a triple. Luckiest:  After approach shot, ball stuck in little clump of British Open style high-grass about 30 yds from the pin.  Take out my 62* wedge and try to blast it out bunker style with hopes of getting it anywhere on the green. Lands two feet from the hole and obligingly rolls in for a birdie. Unluckiest:  Whichever shot it was that gave me my last 8.  One that stands out: Get on par 5 green in regulation, but ball lands below the very steep shelf and pin is just past the rim of the shelf.  Don’t want to leave myself a very fast down hill.  Underhit my first putt, it climbs halfway up the slope then rolls back almost to my feet.  Hit it a little harder for the second putt, and almost make it up to the shelf, but not quite.  Now I know the distance for my third putt.  When all was said and done, it was my one and only fivejack. This weekend I had a shot that covered all extremes… I hit a pretty good 6iron that just started to fade a bit. It looked like it was going to land short & right of the green. It then landed on a sprinkler head – Unlucky :-( It bounced from the sprinkler head straight at the hole – Lucky :-) It shot past past the hole, over the back of the green, bogey – Unlucky :-( – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -My luckiest shot was. Oh, I forgot. In the same round I lost a ball on the first hole. Hit a 3 iron over a fairway bunker. Very soft ground behind the bunker. Ball plugged somewhere. Ball lost somewhere. Many years ago, playing with my Dad, I played a routine short dogleg left par 4.  It called for a fairway wood – long iron followed by a short iron approach.  Lots of trees leftside. After a surprisingly good 4 wood, I hit a 9 iron – too low and too solidly hit, BUT it landed in the cup on the fly. My only eagle on a par 4 – ever. My unluckiest shot was.

Truthfully, 99.99% of the bad shots were my fault.  I did see an eagle putt hit a toad that sneaked up in front of the cup – it wasn’t my putt though.   A pal of mine saw this shot at a Myrtle Beach course. A player in his foursome hit a low, wicked drive into one of the ladies tee markers which caromed up and backwards landing onto the previous green where another group was putting.  No the ball didn’t go in, but it got pretty close – as I heard tell.  Must’ve been funny! Unluckiest shot was on a par 4 that my drive found OB.  Luckiest shot, on the same hole I holed out my approach for par.

That’s what makes golf so much fun.  You can recover from early defeat, or gag it on a little putt.  I wouldn’t want my golf any other way. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Unluckiest shot was on a par 4 that my drive found OB.  Luckiest shot, on the same hole I holed out my approach for par. I just love it when you hit two really ordinary shots, then get a par from two good ones. Last week playing the 10th (341 metres) at my club, I pull hooked an ugly drive right across to the other side of the practice fairway running parallel. I tried a 5-wood recovery that kept too low, straight into the top of a tree (but just got through). Two really bad, ill-considered shots. My next shot was a 7-iron from 145 metres that finished six feet from the hole, and I got the putt. I suppose the pros recover like this all the time! Conversely I hate it when you hit two quite good shots, and miss a little putt or fluff a chip for bogey. It doesn’t seem like justice ;-) Cheers Colin Wilson Trentham Golf Club http://publishing.kyneton.net.au/trentham

Nah, deep down I really want to be an automaton that hits pars and birdies in the most boring regulation fashion ;-) Cheers Colin Wilson Trentham Golf Club http://publishing.kyneton.net.au/trentham

The unluckiest shot I have ever seen was a guy who carried a creek by 50 metres only to hit a gum tree (oz native tree) flush in the trunk and roll back down a small hill, right into the water… it took about a minute to roll all the way to the water, by which time I was laughing so hard I thought I was going to die…. :-) To this day everytime my friend exasperates "golf is just not a fair game" it still reminds me of that day. The luckiest shot I have ever seen would be a hole-in-one by bouncing it off a swale covered with medium rough some 25 metres from the hole. Wish it was mine… Andrew Cassin

I can’t think of any lucky shots of mine  - all the good ones are intended :-) However, I was slightly aggrieved once when, after 6 or 7 holes of topping or slicing my drives, I finally hit an absolute belter dead straight, you know the feeling, when you hardly feel like you touched it and off it goes.  Unfortunately, straight into the marker pole indicating the line of a blind drive.  Ping, stright back to me.  A great drive of approx 250 yards – 130 forward, 120 back.  D’oh!!!!!!
