Swing weight?

Question:

Sure can.  The swingweight doesn’t depend on the weight or the materials, but on the distribution of the weight.

Thanks, Dave. My woods are Titanium heads with ultralight graphite shafts and standard grips. (Off the rack King Cobra) C.J. Elmore ( great golfer wannabe ) Tool & Die maker / Toolroom Supervisor WEB Tool & Mfg. (a division of PENTAIR)

Why not try one graphite shafted iron? I had all graphite about 2 years ago. The fragileness of the graphite did not compliment my sparatic swing pattern. In other words, within 3 months I broke 4 shafts and went back to steel. My swing is now much better. Mabey I’ll give it a try.

What shafts did you use and who assembled them? Where did they break? Quite a number of pros now use graphite in their irons and I seriously doubt that they have breakage like this. John Baima Silver Shot Custom Clubs www.silvershot.com DFW Golf and the Java Swingweight Calculator

They were a very inexpensive shaft that Golfsmith discontinued about 1 1/2 years ago due to breakage. They broke off right at the hossel. I built the clubs myself. Golfsmith had me bring my clubs in so they could inspect them and determine the reason for breakage. After they inspected the clubs and determined that I didn’t use too much epoxy they gave me new grips, steel shafts.grip tape, solvent and epoxy to replace the entire set free of charge. C.J. You can match the swing weight but the overall weight will be difficult to match, even from steel to steel. Dan Can the swing weight of a steel shafted club be matched to the swing weight of a graphite shafted club? I like the balance of my woods(graphite) but the irons feel completely different when I swing them. C.J. Elmore ( great golfer wannabe ) Tool & Die maker / Toolroom Supervisor WEB Tool & Mfg. Yes, you can play with my calculator to see what can be done. However, swingweight is just one of the feel issues. Total weight and balance point are large issues with the overall feel. Why not try one graphite shafted iron? Don’t listen to the naysayers– *some* people love the feel of graphite shafted irons and play better with them. Sure can.  The swingweight doesn’t depend on the weight or the materials, but on the distribution of the weight.  You could swingweight a telephone pole or sledge hammer to match your woods if you wanted to. If your graphite shafted woods have conventional shafts and standard grips, the swingweight is most likely lower than your irons.  If the woods use big butt shafts and ultralight grips, the swingweight is probably higher than your irons. Either way, through proper application of weight, the irons can be matched to the woods.  However, bear in mind that no matter which way the swing weight needs to be adjusted, your irons will end up with a slightly higher static weight than they have now. — Dave Smith Dave’s Custom Clubs http://home.earthlink.net/~dave4golf —Share what you know. Hi all. I was wondering if anyone knew the definition of swing weight and of ways of calculating or measuring it. Pleas use email because I don’t read this newsgroup regularly. Thanks! – Sohail
