Question:
I think the new Cobra Gravity-Backs are going to give Callaway’s X-12’s a run for the money (Even the TM Firesoles are pretty good for forgiveness)
– Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Can someone make some recommendations as to the most forgiving irons… Personally, I think the Callaway irons are among the most forgiving on the market. Probably the most forgiving Callaway would be the Great Big Bertha Tungstan Titanium if you want to spend the $$$. Richard

I found that the Tour Edge Comp 950 Tour Irons were awesome. Both forgiving, yet workable. Those Pure Steel Feel shafts or whatever they are called are great. I love them and am going to get them as soon as I get the dough. David Sumich – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – There was a test in the June issue of Golf Magazine, pg 179 – 192. They had 4 pros and 4 amatuers rate clubs. One set, ‘TOUR EDGE Bazooka’, was rated too forgiving…. seemed to be disliked by all who tested because of a lack of ability to "work the ball". One individual tester commented that this would be a good set for high handicappers. The common comments were that they always hit straight, off the heel, off the toe, did not seem to matter. Nice club test column, these irons are currently going for $880 steel and $990 graphite. Can someone make some recommendations as to the most forgiving irons out there? Steve, There is no proper definition of "forgiving" so there is no one answer. My answer would be the Golfsmith TG System irons. For all of the opinions in this group on other topics, no one else has any vote for most forgiving iron head? All my club forgive me for the way I hit with them, except for the 9 iron that left me yesterday, please come home.

The Golfsmith TG irons look good to me too. I didn’t know about them until the response to your original post. The most forgiving clubhead would most likely be the one with the most weight around the perimeter than the center, and these seem to be as close as a manufacturer can get. Jeff N

The more offset the less manoeuvrability. And bazookas definitely have offset. BTW, have played with Bazooka driver and 3W for a year now and the are OK. Haven’t really tried too many new ones like 975, Callaways, TM’s or FS’s, which all seem really nice clubs. TE’s are also about half the price compared to above. -tomi

I personally like the Taylor Made LCGs (I don’t play them, but they feel good). Mishits seem to go straighter and every shot feels good. Understand this is experience from a demo club on the course and several hours in the simulator. My wife plays TM Burner irons. They are a good balance between working the ball and forgiving. I play Titleist 962, definitely NOT recommended if you are looking for forgiving clubs. I use to have Cobras, very forgiving irons. Hope this helps.

I agree with you. I was luck enough to play a demo club a couple of times and could not mishit it to save my life. They are deadly accurate as well. Now, where did I put my crowbar?
– Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – I can’t give you a "most forgiving" answer, as I haven’t tried all clubs in all circumstances, but I will say that I bought a set of Wilson Fat Shaft irons about 2 months ago (the regular irons, not the RM or Tour Cast) and they are simply amazing. Since buying them my handicap index has dropped from 18 to 15.4 and still dropping (trend hdcp index is 15.0). I am longer, straighter, and they are certainly more forgiving than anything I had before. They’ve allowed me to hit shots that previously were impossible for me. Further, I am now finally getting a swing that can draw the ball, so working them hasn’t been a problem. I would suggest that you check them out before making a decision. I would have to be seriously threatened by a very large man brandishing a crowbar before I would ever consider giving them up.

Steve, There is no proper definition of "forgiving" so there is no one answer. My answer would be the Golfsmith TG System irons. The idea behind them is like the Carbite (and other) putters where as much weight is moved to the heel and toe of the club as possible. This makes the club twist less on miss-hits and thus you lose less distance and accuracy then you otherwise would. This is referred to the moment of inertia of the head. I do not believe that there is another head of normal proportions with a greater moment of inertia than the TG System. The downside of the TG System heads is that they are about 4 times as expensive as a cast steel head. That makes a club built with the TG System head almost as expensive as an average OEM club with a cast steel head. But not quite
