Is the Perfect Club a Club I should Own?

Question:

The infomercial never impressed me with the Hippo.  But the Orlimar with HIP-Ti, now that was an infomercial!  Maybe I can find one of them for $20 an outdrive everyone!

They’re $119 at TGW.  But check out the price on the Hip-SS irons: http://www.tgw.com/customer/category/product.jsp/SUBCATEGORY_ID/3845/… This is a nine club set, 4-9, PW, GW, SW with graphite shafts made by Fujikara–all for $299.  One of my playing partners ordered a set. Great price.  That’s a very interesting looking clubhead design.  I’ve never seen anything quite like it.

You be better off stopping by your local pro shop/demo center and trying out the Taylor Made Rescue Mid woods, the Sonartec T.R.C utility woods or the Mizuno FLI-HI utility irons. Any of those in the 20-22 degree range will deliver roughly the same capabilities as the perfect club. And more importantly you’ll be able to try before you.

The Cobra Baffler is another similar club. I picked one up in a local golf shop last year for $99 Canadian (about $63 US at the time), brand new. They had been selling for around $229.

– Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – It’d be interesting to try it and it may be a great club for all I know,  but at $159 I’ll let someone else be the guinea pig.  If you get one, be sure and let us know how you like it! That what the E-club was selling for a couple years ago.  Now they are $29 in the bargain barrel.  Just wait a couple of years. Talk about a flash in the pan!  I never heard of the E-club. I did, however, see a lot of the  Hippo 400cc

"John-Daly-beats-a-drag-racer" drivers for about $40 shortly after that infomercial stopped running. I paid $100 for one a year ago… now you can find them for about any price $20 and up. :) OH well. :)

Today is my birthday and my wife and kids asked the loaded question – what do I want for my birthday?!

Everybody says the Perfect Club is a waste.  I haven’t tried one though. On my birthday my wife is paying my way to a golf outing that a co-worker of mine is putting on in Keystone.   I am tickled.

Hi Folks, I here from TV, magazines, people I golf with that this should /would be the club to have in my bag. Today is my birthday and my wife and kids asked the loaded question – what do I want for my birthday?! Now – if you are a golfer then you know that this is considered the perfect question =0) Your comments, suggestions or 2 cents worth on the Prefect Club. Thanks,

I’ve also seen the commercial and checked out their website.  It does seem to be, basically, a 7-wood but with a shorter shaft and an offset.  The shape of the head does look like it will cut through rough better than an iron and the ability to swing it like an 8-iron is attractive to me.  At one time I could hit my fairway woods but not my irons, now the situation is reversed!By hitting from the middle of your stance, you automatically hit down on it, something I do not always accomplish. But the club is expensive at $159 and in one sense, it seems to be a rescue wood with a larger head.  I’ve seen rescue woods at less expensive prices so if I were to try anything, I’d try one of those first.  Actually, I may get to do that since Edwin Watts is having a demo day this Saturday at the Irving Golf Range. Another concern besides the expense is how far the club will carry.  Their web page says "It replaces your utility clubs, 5 & 7 woods and your longest irons."  Well, I can understand it replacing a 7-wood and 3-iron since I hit both the same distance (about 180).  But I hit a 5-wood quite a bit farther (about 200).  How can I rely on a club that hits anywhere from 180 to 200? It’d be interesting to try it and it may be a great club for all I know, but at $159 I’ll let someone else be the guinea pig.  If you get one, be sure and let us know how you like it!

OK… The perfect club is nothing more than an short offset 7 wood.
