Help – Eliminate Grip and Rip

Question:

I am a golf newbie who is about to become 58 yrs old. Despite trying not to, I always seem to swing too hard, with the predicatable results of very poor ball contact. Lots of tops and toes. Anybody have a drill to force me to slow down?

Why do you want to slow down?  The club should swing fast. What you need to do is learn how to swing correctly, not slowly.  The easiest way to learn is to take lessons from a pro. Before you buy.

Try hitting a 7-iron one-handed (with your right hand if you play right handed golf) It’ll take a few tries but once you get it you’ll amazed at how far and straight you can hit the ball with minimal effort.   more importantly, it is very hard to force the club with just one hand so you will quickly learn the let the club do the work.   If you can then transfer that to your two handed swing you will start to ease off on the white knuckles and clenched teeth quite naturally… Oscar

Response:

try hitting balls with your feet together….it really encourages a controlled swing.
