Do tour pros use offset clubs?

Question:

Yes, some tour professionals use offset clubs (ie. Ping).  The are numerous benefits, such as it makes it easier for you to get your hands in a positive angle at impact (reduces "casting").  This is good for some, not for others. If offset clubs hit well for you, they’re good clubs for you.  Don’t be concerned with how many tour pros use them.   Jim

Response:

I bought a set of X-12 and like them because they seem very easy to hit. Compared to my old forged clubs I noticed the heads on the X-12s are offset. What is the benefits and detriments of an offset iron and do any pros use an offset head iron on tour?

Doesn’t montgomerie play offset callaways? RSG Role Call  http://u1.netgate.net/~kirby34/rsg/mclaughlins.htm

Response:

The offset is supposed to put your hands forward a bit and help square up the club.  Some say that this tends to fight a slice, many amateur players’ biggest concern. It’s fair to say that most players prefer a less offset (or no offset) iron, however, there are quite a few who do use offset.  Probably not to fight a slice, but if they learned to play with offset irons, it probably just fits their eye better. — Randy Golf help for newbies:  http://wwwgolfer.home.mindspring.com My RSG Roll Call profile:  http://u1.netgate.net/~kirby34/rsg/brownr.htm RSG FAQ:  http://ttsoft.com/thor/rsggolf.html Voiceovers/Narration/Production Services:  www.randybrownproductions.com – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – I bought a set of X-12 and like them because they seem very easy to hit.
