Question:
I am currently reading and trying to apply Pelz’s short game bible and I do use my 56* sand wedge more often inside 100 than the pitching wedge. After a while, you just tend to look at your wedges as different lofted short irons instead of "Pitching" "Sand" and "Lob".
My PW and SW are just different short irons… nothing unusual about them such as big bounce or anything. My Lob is an Alien type thing… a bit unusual, but pretty effective from a lot of lies.
Response:
I had Olimar 3 and 5 woods but I replaced them with a tight lies 2 5+ (19 degrees). It sorta fills the gap between both for me and frees up some space for that 7 wood. Then there are the hybrid sets that cover those distances with the newer I-woods (Hybrid 3, 4 irons)….not a bad choice either if you wanted a complete overhaul. J

I just bought a set of KGZ irons, 5-wedge from my golf shop with shafts, etc fitted to me– was no big deal. I use the 7 wood instead of the 3,4. Love the 7 wood. Some days, some courses. I should tee off with the thing so I stay in the fairway. Pete – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Dave Pelz says I do. Why? Because he says today’s club manufacturers are selling irons that most of us hackers don’t need. And he also says I need 3 wedges. And…..quit using the pitching wedge from inside 100 yds. So….How can you buy "brand" irons without the 3,4 irons?
Response:
My problem is I really think I need to start carrying the 7 wood again but not sure which club to take out. I already ditched the 3iron for the 4th wedge. My 4 iron is a great club for hitting the 200 yard teeshot on the short holes. I had a similar problem when I added my 4th wedge. What I am dropping is my 5W. My 3W is a good fairway wood, as is my 22
