Question:
Have you ever hit a flag? Back in the fall, I hit a stiff 5 iron into an uphill par five. There was a crosswind holding the flag out and the ball hit dead center of it (the flag).
No…that’s a new one… I thought what a great (lucky) shot! I have to be very close(I figured it would knock the ball down). Well, when I finally get where I can see, there is no ball on the green. Now I am thinking, "It went in!" One of the others in my group said there is a ball over here. It went completely off the green, way to the right of the line it was on. Took three to get down when should have been easy bird.
Was it on the downhill side…?I’ll bet the flag took all the spin off the ball. ]]]Z[[[
Response:
Actually, I think it turned it into somewhat of a side spin. Not sure, yes is was downhill, the green is dome shaped. May be combination of both. Mark - Hide quoted text -- Show quoted text - Was it on the downhill side...?I'll bet the flag took all the spin off the ball. ]]]Z[[[

Well I drove a 300m hole the other day, it was a fair bit downhill. Also had an eagle putt on a 230 par 4, majorly uphill, but three putted for a great par. Then Randy got me to taping pointers to clubfaces and investigating how lie affects the clubface...Now I'm hitting em ALL exactly 16 ft to the right of target...Sheesh...talk about the power of suggestion... SO... Lets get into something a little less de-constructive... PLEASE! (g) I did manage to sink a 30 yd chip for an eagle last sat... really made my day...Hung one over (bout 1/4") the hole for a tap in birdie today...sort of makes up for the problems. Any body else been hitting some good ones lately...? ]]]Z[[[

My parents raised me to believe it's important to make a difference in the world. Glad to hear I'm having such an impact. <g Randy

A constructive suggestion: Aim 16 ft left!

I birdied and parred a tough hole (for me anyways) the two times that I played it on Wednesday. I actually made a couple of great lob wedge shots, and chipped in for a birdie with my 6 iron on the weekend. After a long battle, I'm really starting to feel where the club is with my right hand/arm, and when I have this feel, am playing excellent golf (when it goes, it goes, so I go from par golf to double bogie golf!). I had 7 pars today, which is not my best, but much better than usual lately. Rob

I've lost count of the number of great shots I've hit with a lob or sand wedge. However they never go in. My eagles have all been inside 20 yards (one from 2 feet) and I don't think I've holed out a pitch from more than 30 yards, 40 at the most. I've hit the stick every possible way, dented all 4 sides of the cup, you name it, but the ball never goes in the hole if I hit it with a full swing. -joseph - Hide quoted text -- Show quoted text - Lets get into something a little less de-constructive...
