What's the biggest driver head you've hit?

Question:

Both Integra and Bang have 600cc heads. I have a Bang 6C and like it very much. If you pick up one of the 600 heads after using a head <300cc it will look huge, but if you move up gradually as I have it, is not as drastic a change. From 1992 (or 3) to 2002 I went to 250, 285, 320, 400, 450, 550 and then 600cc.   (the last five I have built from components so the cost is not that bad)

Response:

I once got in a fight with a cab driver, over an overcharge.  I must have punched his ham sized head 30 or 40 times, before he went to sleep.

Response:

I’m asking because yesterday I hit a 500cc monster, an Integra or Ultegra or Ultima, something like that.  The ball looked the size of a pea at address.  There was a loud clang at impact I didn’t care for, but the ball really seemed to jump off the clubface. I asked the owner of the club if it was legal, and he said as far as he knew it was.  Even so, I don’t think I would want to play a driver this huge.  Something just seems wrong about it.

I use a 1250 cc clubhead, but the problem I have is finding 14" long tees so I can actually hit the ball in the center of the clubface. B&B

Response:

Here’s a pic of the thing ….. got it from Diamond Tour Golf.

Holy crap, that thing is huge!  Given the small size of the golf ball, there has to be a point where the disadvantages (increased inertia, fragility, drag) of extremely large clubheads outweighs the benefits (very large sweet spot).  I would guess this happens well before 600cc.

Response:

I use a 450cc driver because I can hit the ball straight with it. At some point, your buddy’s club will become illegal.  There’s going to be a limit of 470cc to the head size, but I’m not sure when that’s going to kick in. what does the cc refer to?

Hey Rob, Was that a 565cc that Michael won at last year’s RSG-Masters? If so it is the biggest I’ve ever hit. Not too far but it did go straight! — bill-o
