Question:
I have ‘em, I like ‘em. I’ve got the 855 Hot Scot 3W (14deg, you can also get 16deg) and 5W both with steel shafts. driver 10 deg with UST tour wt shaft. heads are billed as oversize, but look is traditional (i.e. not huge) at set up. fine off fairway, forgiving of minor mis-hits. steel shaft options are TourStep II (TT dynalite-like; TA says some changes), and dynamic gold. graphite shaft options are the G-force and UST tour weight. there is also a titanium head version, the Tommy Gun. haven’t tried it. I have a set of Armour 855s irons with G-Force graphite shafts, stiff flex. I hit these well and long, I am very happy with them. I am wanting to replace my ratty old circa 1984 woods with something new. I have looked at the Tommy Armour 855 "Hot Scot" woods. They use the same G-Force shaft as my irons. They cost about the same as a Warbird. I would like to get them but I havn’t heard much about Armour for woods. Would I be better off getting the 855 woods because they use the same shaft as my irons? Or would I be better off getting a brand that is famous for woods, like Callaway, but would probably have a completely different "feel"? My old woods are so bad I have been using the 1 iron instead on most shots, so I am not overly concerned with which one carries further. Any advice appreciated…

My last wood was a Tommy armour 845s Siler Scott 7.5 deg with boron Composite stiff flex shaft. I bought it second hand (it was about five years old) but it looked and felt brand new, however the shaft shattered only 3 weeks after purchase. I am lucky enough to have an understanding Pro who just swapped it for a similar driver. I suppose all I’m saying is I really liked it, but would have prefered Xstiff shaft, so it was a pretty good club, and for a five year old club it was exellent!!!! Thrasher, I have the 855’s also and I love them. I have a TM BB 9.5* driver that I hit okay. I wanted to try the Hot Scot woods when I bought the irons but nobody stocked them. I have since borrowed a Hot Scot 3-W from a friendand play 2 rounds with it. It was very nice. About 240 yards off the tee and 230 off the deck. It had a little too much flex for my taste and I faded some shots but that was with a G-Force reg. flex shaft. I think a stiff shaft would have corrected the moderate fade. My friend didn’t have the driver so I have not had a chance to play that club yet, but if the 3-W is ant indication it ought to be a very good club. Good Golf! Dan
