Question:
I recently purchased a Rawlings Fairway Lies Strong 5 Wood (19 degree loft) at Target (49.95). I am actually quite pleased with my purchase. The club performs well, gets the ball up in the air, and I find it easy to hit, and its about $170 cheaper than an Orlimar. TAB – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -I’m thinking about buying a 3 wood and 5 wood from Rawlings. Anybody have any experience with Rawling’s golf products, or these woods particularly. Thanx.

I’ve been hitting the original Rip-It for 4 seasons, now. I’ve tried a pretty wide range of drivers, either by hitting playing partners’ or friends’ clubs and by hitting them into the net at the golf store, but I seem to hit the cheapo Rawlings as well as (usually better than) anything I’ve tried. It’s the best driver I’ve ever had, overall. It is as long off the tee as any of my other drivers except the Taylor Made Burner 8.5. It’s almost as easy to hit off the fairway as a three wood, too. However…I bought the new Rip-It II. This is a knock-off of the Taylor Made Bubble, and considering that I can’t hit that club, I should have known that the Rip-It II would be more of the same. It was. Can’t hit it at all. I don’t mean I hit it crooked, I just can’t hit it as far as I can other drivers. It’s 10 or 15 yards shorter off the tee than the original Rip-It. I suspect the kick point in bubble shafts is just all wrong for my swing, so I am not condemning the club out of hand — some people hit the Taylor Made bubble-shafted drivers just fine. I’ve seen it done! In any case, I suspect the Rawlings will work just as well for about 1/5 the money. — "And if you’re a miner, when you’re too tired and old and sick and stupid to do your job properly, you have to go, whereas just the opposite applies with the judges."
