Nevada Bob's and trade ins

Question:

I was wondering if anybody out there has ever bought a club from Nevada Bob’s (or any golf shop) and then brought it back as a trade-in.  I bought a Big Bertha Warbird (steel shaft) 11 degree driver.  I’d like to bring it back and get a 9 degree along with a 3 wood and 5 wood. Has anybody done anything like this.  If so, any ideas on what I can expect to get for the club.  It’s been used for maybe 5 or 6 rounds at the end of the season last year and 2 or 3 buckets this winter. Any information would be useful.  Is it just like trading in a used car for a new one? Thanks!! Tom Price

Hi Tom, I used to work at a Nevada Bob’s and we took a lot of trades.  The simple answer to your question is Yes, it’s very similar to trading in a car.   Generally, you’ll have better luck trading it back to the exact same salesman you worked with before.  He won’t want to tell you that any club you buy from him will be worth 10% of what you paid for it after a little use.  Also, depending on what kind of person you are, you may be able to do better by selling the club through the classifieds.  Finally, every golf shop is unique when it comes to trade ins.  Some refuse to do it and will usually refer you to somebody that does.  Some will only put your club on consignment.  Some will encourage you to trade, but will offer you a small percentage of what the club is worth.   Good luck. -Barry
