Question:
– Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – This is already proving to be an interesting thread. This past year, I had lessons from 4 different teachers. In every case, I walked away hitting better than before. The key difference was whether I understood why. In contrast to the other 3 pros, the pro I see now does an outstanding job of explaining the golf swing, as well as instituting a step-by-step approach. The difference between my swing now and then is night and day. I hope this will be Iowa’s experience too. FWIW, without forming a definite opinion whether this is spam or not (I’m awaiting George’s response), I do believe RSG is better off with two swing gurus rather than one. While there is unfortunate tension, those of us on the sidelines hear different perspectives, and learn from it. -Greg
As i have said to certain subscribers by e-mail - particuarly those who claim there to be no clique in rec.sport.golf – it is a great shame you don’t feel you can express in public your disdain for those who spoil the group by posting kind of grot we see piling into this thread. As I say, I firmly believe that you could well hold the key to future harmony within this group…. imho. — F.

George hibbard is a fabulous instructor and a very nice person. Until you have had the chance to at least look at his material or meet him personally, it is wrong to be abusive or cynical about someone else’s posting supporting him as a teacher..
I’ve met him in person and I have his video so I meet all your criteria, do you want my opinion? I wish i had the know how and business skills to do what he has accomplished.
What has he accomplished? Suckering people like you to attend his school? And say what you want, but i have seen him swing a golf club and he would absolutely annhililate most of you on the golf course.
Did you see him play or just swing a golf club? to those of you that will respond to this with the continued contempt, sarcasm, and occasional obscenity, I will read it with humor rather than hurt, because you are truly a joke, although a bad one indeed .
The only bad joke in this group is you. You were caught posting under two different names and after telling us the wonders Perfect Impact did for you game you decided to try Natural Golf or single axis or what ever it was. Who cares about that. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Instead of wasting time interpreting and psychoanalyzing the motives behind every message why don’t you give the writer the benefit of the doubt. It seems that every time someone here talks about perfect impact, natural golf, lever power golf, HSS, a new training device,, or whatever else is out there that is not in the mainstream , the person comes under attack. The bottom line is that there are many modes of instruction out there and what works for one may not work with others. I am not the least insulted by others talking about their experiences . Why do you cry babies have to jump on someone everytime you don’t like the message. Sitting behind your computer terminals not face to face with the person you are talking to makes it real easy to be insulting and derogatory, but i wonder if you would have the gonads to say this face to face. Looking at the volume of your posts, do some of you have a life? Is your only mission in life to scan RSG and wait for the opportunity to be abusive . I am not a psycholoigst, but it is crystal clear a lot of you either are not getting enough from the old lady or are profoundly unhappy with the way your lives have turned out, as there is no other rationale for the sheer venom that emanates from a small but vocal group of you.. No individual who is happy in his life would conduct him/herself like this, so to those of you who are so negative and derogatory over something as trivial as golf, you are to be pitied and i empathize with the pain you must be suffering. If a golf discussion gets you so passionate and upset, how would you handle a real crisis, like losing your home, being laid off, or a loved one getting cancer…i would hate to think how some of you might react. Say what you want, but mainstream instruction has not worked and i have opened my mind up to what else is out there. George hibbard is a fabulous instructor and a very nice person. Until you have had the chance to at least look at his material or meet him personally, it is wrong to be abusive or cynical about someone else’s posting supporting him as a teacher.. If you feel so strongly, why don’t some of you write a book or produce a video. I give George credit not only as an instructor, but also as a business person. While many of you are working your 9-5 jobs, stressed out, and kissing the rear ends of your bosses, george is out there on a beautiful golf course teaching enthusiastic students and probably making more than most of you and having a fun time doing it. Are you folks jealous? I wish i had the know how and business skills to do what he has accomplished. And say what you want, but i have seen him swing a golf club and he would absolutely annhililate most of you on the golf course. In my journey to be a better golfer, I opened up my mind again based on the recommendations and improvement of a friend and Have supplemented george’s ‘teachings with a bit of single axis, by holding the club more in my palm and a bit more upright.. Two days ago, i shot a 42 on a 3200 yard nine hole course which is my best score ever and this would not have happened unless i was willing to open up my mind and try what is different. How many of you can say that in 2001 you showed that much improvement as i was basically a mid/high 90’s shooter most of this year. If i listened to the swing gurus, i don’t think i would have progressed so fast. and the fact that there has been virtually no improvement in golf scores in recent history validates their absolute failure…but if people want to continue to buy the product that is certainly their right and i would not humiliate them in a public forum. Reading what some of you say and what is out there in the popular literature, I have decided that the best strategy is to take a contrarian perspective…if the mob decrees it bad, it is probably good and worth looking into as the mob will do anything to protect their turf and humiliate others who do not bow down to them. From a demographic standpoint, golfers are generally supposed to be highly educated and successful compared to other sports and hobbies. From this education and success, you would hope would emanate a greater maturity and satsfaction with life, but from what i have seen on this forum and on the golf course, golfers are generally some of the most pathetic individuals i have ever met. How can you explain all the cussing, beating clubs on the ground, and humiliation that golfers do to each other. very, very sad. to those of you that will respond to this with the continued contempt, sarcasm, and occasional obscenity, I will read it with humor rather than hurt, because you are truly a joke, although a bad one indeed . To those of you who can take stock of what this forum has become, namely an embarassment, and work hard in 2002 to promote tolerance with the opinions and quirks of others, you are the only hope this forum has and good luck to you. happy new year! Eric

As with all instruction, the proof is in the performance. Not the day after, but six weeks after. I’m certain George would agree.
Actually, he doesn’t. He says performance should improve immediately – within the seconds it takes to utter the words and make one or 2 swings. He has maintained that many times on this forum. He must continue to do so – or admit that "5 minutes to perfect impact" is a sham, something that he can not, will not, ever do.

(Currently at 20) I signed up for the 3 day seminar. www.perfectimpact.com I thought I would share my experience with other golf lovers and hacks. Enjoy…… First let me tell you that besides a great golf teacher, George Hibbard is a great person. I felt that after my 3 days with George I now have a friend for life. He truly is dedicated to helping other people learn, wither it be golf, piano, or taking a underprivileged kid and being his buddy for the day. Okay, on to the lessons… DAY 1 – When I arrived I had my C swing. Not great, but not horrible. As it turned out it was a good swing to build from. We first started out with the basics, just like the video. We went thru some of the drills and then hit some balls. Within, minutes George was telling me I was making Perfect Impact. WHAT??? But George, it didn’t go 5000 yards like Tigers and it took off to the left and then sliced off to the right. What George soon taught me was that golf was a game of very fine adjustments. George then proceeded to hit a couple of balls for me to explain a couple of swing theorys. Let me tell you, that guy can hit a ball! He lines up the ball on the toe of his club with his club face wide open….. and then proceeds to dance onto his right side and then back to his left with a sweet contact with the ball. He pures a wedge about 120 yards. Ohh, did I mention he’s 69 going on 70! George unlike other teachers I’ve had in the past explained how the golf swing works and why. He didn’t tell me to do something because Tiger does, he told me to do things that fit me and the way I can more naturally strike the ball with my build, height, flexibility, etc.. Soon after working from my PW to my 4 iron we kept making small adjustments. I started hitting it pretty darn good. We then go to my driver. I was hitting just a little over 220 on my good ones, but just couldn’t quite get it dialed in. George then showed me his drives! Probably about 240-250+ on the fly with a $64 dollar driver from Walmart. Hmmm wonder what he could do with a TM360 fitted for him? I was pleased with my swing but still wasn’t getting the distance I expected. I needed a 6 iron to get it to 150 yards. DAY 2 – We worked on putting, chipping, and pitching. The BIGGEST thing I learned was that you can actually not have to guess for these shots. We created charts… For instance, a two step putt equals a 4 inch backswing. For pitches we made a chart that a backswing to belt level for a PW was 65 yards. And did the same type of thing with chips. Works pretty good for us none feel idiot golfers. In the afternoon we video taped my swing and found a source of of my lost distance was an early release. Hard to see that with the naked eye, but frame by frame tells the whole picture. I highly recommend a video analysis for anyone. DAY 3 – Did a review of the last two days and George gave me a list of drills to work after I left. We then started working on adjusting my driver some more. Pretty soon we found a combination that was making me hit the driver out with George’s. Felt good to finally hit some good drives again. We tried the same setup on my irons and it worked great for them as well. It was a great three days. I would recommend it to anyone. I stayed at the Palm Coast resort another 3 days and took advantage of the great golf deal they have going on. Great Course. Ocean Hamock was awesome. My game really started coming around, and a couple of people I golfed with at one of the tighter courses (Cypress Knoll) were actually impressed with my long drives down the middle almost every time. I hardly ever more then two putted and had a lot of 1 putts as well. I have lots of work to do ingrain my new swing, but I have a great feeling that next year my handicap will drop big time! THANKS GEORGE! Before I left, I had the pleasure of having a great fresh fish dinner with George and his lovely wife. That was a great end to the week. They were great host. Sorry this got so long. I couldn’t even begin to detail the whole 3 days in this posting but please feel free to send me an email if you have any questions about Perfect Impact. I would recommend it to anyone. My only regret is that it’s now offically winter here in Iowa and I’ll have to wait till next spring to really grove in all I learned. Hmmm, maybe another trip to Florida is needed to fill in the time. Thanks for listening. Pat.

I have no doubt that a personal, one-on-one lesson with George Hibbard would be useful and informative for anyone wishing to improve their game. My personal experience of him, what little there has been, has amounted to a phone call. I found him very warm and genuinely interested in my performance curve. And I certainly didn’t have anywhere near the same trouble comprehending what he had to say as I sometimes do comprehending what he writes. I think Mr. Hibbard would be the first to tell you his writing style occasionally leaves something to be desired (namely, clarity and brevity). In most cases, I’ve found people who are predisposed to over-amplify a point in print possess communication skills that are better suited to face-to-face exchanges. My hunch is, George falls under that category. Being a native Missourian, I’m always one who gets more out of something when it’s "shown to me." As with all instruction, the proof is in the performance. Not the day after, but six weeks after. I’m certain George would agree. A truly gifted teacher (who’s blessed with a truly committed student) will eventually render himself obsolete; he’ll turn his student into his own best teacher. It seems to me that should always be the goal. Like a good parent, a teacher’s primary role is to prepare the student for the day he "leaves the nest." In my view, this is why it’s almost impossible for printed instruction, or even video instruction, to fully satisfy the complex needs of a student who is committed to a full curriculum of learning. The interraction of being there, in-person, just lends itself to nuance that is simply not possible any other way. Pat.

– Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – I recently spent 3 days at Perfect Impact Golf School. I went the whole summer without dropping my handicap. Great story, and no surprise to me that your visit was so fruitful and enjoyable I have always found George remarkably generous with his help both here in RSG and by e-mail. — F. PS Happy new year to one and ALL.
