KZG PFT/300 – Outing Report (Long, Glowing and Indulgent)

Question:

I just don’t think it is advertised as a Springlike effect clubface. It’s plenty long, but I was longer with the PFT from KZG. Actually the ZT felt better to me. Brad – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Brad… I don’t know about that… the ZT Maxima 330 was a pretty long hitting head for me and very pretty. I was hitting the 330 as long as a friends Nike 350cc with both a 70-S and Apache PM 40+ shafts. RJ … RJ … Zero Tolerance. Mike D knows about it. It’s not as long, but it is very straight. Brad

Response:

Brad – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Brad, what was the driver head you were telling me about that performed like the KZG but was less noisy? — John David,  Everyone i know that has played with this driver head has loved it and it gets rave reviews across every golf forum. I have seen the head in a dark cherry red and it looks awesome with a black shaft.  It’s a real weapon for sure!!!  Will enjoy seeing you hit it..good luck Eric It is a very loud clubhead. I have the new version I believe, and it draws attention to itself. On a crowded range, I won’t use it. I’m too shy. But it is very solid. Brad

I played in one of our local chamber outings today, and took the KZG PFT/300 driver that Mike Dalecki sent me to try.  Previously, I had only tried the club last Friday on the range (after the White Van of Joy arrived) and then played a few early morning holes on Saturday at my home course.  I was *very* happy with the initial results.

I had my local clubmaker, Jacques Intriere, build me a PFT/300 a few weeks ago, with the 43.5" innolite he recommended in a 245cmp flex. 10.5′ hand selected to 11′, with a 1′ closed face.  It’s staying in the bag.  I’m getting about 10-15 yards more than my previous favorite Bazooka 320J on the pure hits, with much better control on the (all too frequent) less than perfect hits.  Hitting it pure gives me about a 235yd  carry, and hitting it off the toe or heel will still give me a very liveable 190 yds or so.  I love the way it looks, and can tolerate the way it sounds. On a related note, I shot my personal best on Friday at Barbados Golf Club.  Shot a 90 off the blue tees for a net 63.  Never could have done it without the extra length the KZG gave me on that windy course.  By the way, could someone re-post the odds on my scoring 9 strokes under my handicap?  More importantly than the new driver, though, was the improved decisionmaking.  Amazing what 5 days of playing the same course every morning will do for your course management skills, if you’re willing to honestly assess your decisionmaking on each shot on the 30 minute drive home from the course each day. Welp, I’ll put my opine in, as well….  PFT/300?  Nice driver, very straight, very longo…  I’ve charted well over 100 hits at the range on it, and it is very good…  also nice on the course…  but, a much better and more consistent driver is the ‘Extreme Steel’ from GolfSmith…  PFT is top notch, but it will pull an occasional hooky or slice on you, when you least expect it…..  much better is the Extreme Steel…  distance is nearly that of the PFT, but where it truely shines is control and straightness…..  you almost can’t mishit this sucker…  have charted well over 200 hits on the range, and this sucka performs even better on the course…..  sound wise, it’s a touch "louder" than the PFT, but I can hang with that, just so _______ viker

– Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – I can only offer the highest praise for the PFT/300.  I think it is clearly one of the best driver heads out there.  KZ Golf has impressed me with their top-drawer quality and design.  I also am very impressed with Mike Dalecki’s work.  The club feels absolutely great, hits a ton, and I will *not* be returning it to Wisconsin … other than to make defending appearance at RSG-WI 2003. Thanks for the report.  Today I went to a True Temper Shaft Lab and had my swing analyzed.  I need different (softer) shafts than I’m using.  I’m biting the bullet and going with news heads and shafts, I’ll be asking Mike D to do the assembly.  The PFT/300 was the head I was looking at and I think you just sold it. David, Condider the RBT325 – I find it a bit longer than the 300 – both are excellent heads and combined with the right shaft are a fantastic club. — David RSG Roll Call http://rec-sport-golf.com/members/?rollcall=sneddond email:  dsneddon  AT attcanada DOT ca

Response:

Not to throw a wrench in the works, but I just found a driver that hits farther and with more control than my previous long drive champ driver, which was a 10.5* PFT300 with a Fujikura Prototype 70-S shaft.  The new champ is a Titleist 8.5* 975J with a Graphite Design YS-7 stiff shaft. It more easily plays a well controlled draw, fade and straight, with just a little adjustment of the right hand in the grip. The PFT300 is still a cheaper solution, but with the J selling in the sub-$200 range, it’s a tool worth checking out. While I don’t hit nearly as long as you, I also give the KZG PFT/300 high marks.  I’ve never been a long hitter, averaging only perhaps 190 off the tee with my old driver.  Although not assembled by Mike Dalecki, I had the KZG driver recommended to me by a custom club fitter in my area — the same guy who I bought my irons from.  I had never heard of KZG at that time, so took a chance on the club fitter’s rep and blind faith.  I can honestly say that this may have been the one of the best investments I’ve made in golf equipment. Although I still don’t blast ‘em like a lot of other guys, I would say that I’m averaging 215-220 on my drives now, with an occassional 240.  That’s a 10 or 15% increase.  But most of all, my drives are _straight_!  Since using the KZG, I usually hit 10-11 out of 14 fairways.    That’s up from about 7-8.  Longer and straighter — that’s a combination that can’t be beat.  And my occassional mishits aren’t nearly as off the mark as before. Highly recommended. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – I played in one of our local chamber outings today, and took the KZG PFT/300 driver that Mike Dalecki sent me to try.  Previously, I had only tried the club last Friday on the range (after the White Van of Joy arrived) and then played a few early morning holes on Saturday at my home course.  I was *very* happy with the initial results. So, off to the outing with the new driver.  Now, I want to point out that I’m not invited to play in these outings because of my short game.  It’s not that it’s terrible, but it’s not as good as the guys I play these outings with.  I’m there primarily for the long ball.  I’m thinking that the PFT/300 will do what I ask it to do, for the most part. The format was a scramble, shotgun start, and we went off on # 9, a 370-yard par 4.  I hit the PFT/300 straight over the dogleg (just getting my feet wet), and we had about 75 yards left to the pin.  On  # 10 I hit a high 310-yard slight draw that ran a bit, and we were left with about a 100-yard shot.  On # 11, I ‘mis-hit’ my drive (a bit thin) and screamed it out there about 290, right in the center of the fairway.  On # 13 (par 5, 479-yards, the long drive hole today), I went after it, and hit a bomb that ended up inside the 150 yard marker.  We guessed the drive to be 337 yards.  I won the long drive.  On # 14, I hit a fade around the dogleg that actually hit a small tree, and held the drive to about 290 yards.  My first real miss.  # 16 is another short par 5, and I was again past 300 yards, very straight, with a leave of 150.  On # 18 (302-yard uphill par 4), I drove the green and rolled up ten feet past the pin.  That served as a good warm-up to hole # 1 (dead-straight 326-yard par 4), which I drove, leaving the ball pin high and 15 feet right of the pin.  On # 2, I slightly mis-hit my ball and ended up in the left rough about 280.  # 3 is a 340-yard par 4, straight away, and I left my ball 20 yards off the green.  # 5 is a 450-yard par 5, and I hit a high draw to within 150 yards.  #7 was backed up against the fence to a yardage of 265, and I cut a mulligan ball to the front of the green, leaving us about a 35 footer.  #8, the only par over 500 (it was 525 or 530 today, I think), I left us right even with the 200-yard marker. We came in 2nd, scoring a 52 (25-27), and used 8 mulligans along with the string we bought  – scores are ridiculously low in these outings!  The winning team shot 51 (25-26).  We were actually thinking 49, but had two pars and a disappointing birdie on # 8 that should have been an eagle. I am absolutely amazed by this driver.  It is so much straighter and a fair bit longer for me than what I’ve been using, a Titleist 975D with Grafalloy ProLite 35-S.  Mike set this one up with a ‘neutralized’ Dynamic Gold last Friday with some other clubs, including a 975J in steel, and the PFT/300 was the hands down winner.  What is so impressive to me is how the PFT/300 just wants to go basically straight, but allows you to still work the ball when needed.  And although the sound is still taking some getting used to, I think I can live with it.  I wouldn’t care if it sounded like a church bell at this point.  I would not have thought to go right for some of these greens in the past, just because I would be afraid of hitting a wild tee shot.  The PFT/300 performed beautifully.  Hot, long, boring ball-flight that was very accurate.  This is a club that I would be happy to take to one of our local long-drive contests…as is.
